That Poison album cover and even the Hall & Oates cover make Modern Talking look like the most hetero shit ever.

That Poison album cover is the gayest shit I've ever seen.
Were they a known gay band back in the day???
We've all seen the Poison music video for "Every Rose Has Its Thorn"...
The guys had the '80s 'metal band hair' but they didn't seem like hella super gay or anything.
So why these massively gayass album covers??
You'd think that would scare people off back in the day.
What was it some kinda psychological study they did which says dudes in the '80s were more likely to buy an album if the other dudes on the cover look like chicks??
For some reason I just don't think that's... valid.

Or were they marketed to chicks back in the day and that's why they had them in makeup looking feminine?
That almost makes more sense...
Hmmm.

I'm put off by dudes in makeup looking feminine, so the tactic wouldn't have worked for me...

I recall perceiving a slight bit of wannabe gayness on the back covers of a few albums by The Cars (my all-time favorite group)...
But it wasn't over the top or offensive...

It was still manly enough, and really pretty normal looking. The gayest thing on there is Ben Orr with a sucker, but somehow he still manages to look like a straight dude.
TBF, "Candy-O" was a track on that album and I think that's why he had the sucker...
He was the hottest member which is why he's up there in the middle appealing to all the ladiesz.
So no...
Those album covers aren't gay.
But that other shit???
And I'm sure there are LOTS of good examples that I just don't even know about.

this is something i've wondered about. i think you can drive it back to bowie, i'm not sure who else was big in that era doin that type of thing. not sure why the 80s metal bands picked it up. it doesn't really make sense, and yet it kinda does. idk. i didn't question it at the time, tho i was a kid. didn't question it in the 90s or 00s either.
maybe just long term subconscious visual programming.
'rock star' isn't anywhere near the thing it used to be, either.

I agree, and then when the 80's hit you had Robert Smith, Prince, and the afore mentioned hair bands.
I was heavily into punk rock which had it's own kind of glam, given the amount of hairspray needed to keep our mohawks up, and the amount of eyeliner that went around. It's kind of interesting with punk, where we wore combat boots, leather coats, ripped up jeans and wife beaters, with an emphasis on fighting and slam dancing and toughness, yet wore tons of eyeliner.

it's like increasing the ambient amount of femininity in order to maintain balance with the even more increased masculinity.
i've been feeling an urge to use some eyeliner... for an eye of horus.

Apparently these guys were some of the earliest on the scene... even before punk.
That's pretty early... indeed, this has gotta be where the trend has its beginnings.
And it's pretty damn gay. Founding guy knew other founding guy from high school and they opened a dudes' clothes boutique together?
Kiiinda gay. Like definitely undercover gay shit at the least, but then it turns into something REALLY warped...

I mean just look at that album cover.

Even this gay culture blog insists they weren't gay...
Wow. Talk about a tangled web of lies and badness.
These glam band dudes are actually worshipping evil in the same manner as they do at Bohemian Grove.
All the dudes crossdress and fuck eachother at Bohemian Grove, Alex talks about it all the time.

A little guyliner is fine, but this other shit... not even the same ballpark as some guyliner dude.

And Robert Smith's makeup was almost like a character... he did it the same all the time and it was more like his uniform.
Some of these 'glam metal' bands sport legitimate stage makeup, albeit shit that looks like a cross between a clown and a drag queen.

But these dudes with all the makeup making the pouty faces wearing high heels and shit??
Muhfucka please, that's gay. Straight up. And it's 100% linked to the same shit as Bohemian Grove and Skull & Bones and all the other places they crossdress and do rituals.
