Arguments suck and every minute spent in one is a waste of everyone's life. But I also know that narcissists love to drag on arguments for as long as possible and psychologically torment you with them. They can do anything but de-escalate.

I had said before that psychological problems are common, and they are. But I did not mean that narcissism is common. It's actually a term thrown around FAR too often these days, and in most cases, it simply isn't true. However, everyone is bound to run across at least 2-3 narcissists in the span of their lives. So we've all known at least a couple. They're really only very apparent as close friends, parental units, and romantic partners. Otherwise you're probably not gonna notice that someone is a narcissist.

I'd say Sage's chick was POSSIBLY a narcissist, but in general, it just sounds like she had some psychological problem that may or may not have been legitimate narcissism. Sounds like some type of PTSD or maybe BPD. Some kinda shit like that.

As for Sage, I commend him for being a good and non-abusive man (well, as far as we know or can tell) considering the horrific childhood he had (the details of which he has shared publicly). It takes a strong person to break the cycle, and I believe he did break it. He deserves a lot of honor and respect for that alone.

21:10 yeah... I definitely WANT to treat people with compassion and just try to practice compassion in general. But it is so fucking hard sometimes, especially when you think about all the wrong that has been done to you, and to others. I don't always succeed at being compassionate. But I wanna be. That said, I've arrived at the same conclusion as Sage, and he's a lil late to the party. I got there a while back. I am absolutely done with (romantic) love, I have zero desire for it anymore, and I also have no legitimate desire for sex. All of it is gone, for the first time in my life, I can honestly say I'm free from it. I do still think dudes are hot now and then, and I have my reactions (mostly in the realm of thought, almost never in the body). But there's nothing within me that actually wants to be with them on any level.

I think as time marches on, we have experiences in life, and we gain wisdom from those experiences... it's inevitable that we will come to these kind of conclusions about love. I think that's the beauty of growing older. You are able to let go of something that used to take up so much of your time (giving almost nothing in return to you), and it frees you up to pursue things that are so much more fulfilling. It frees you up to experience genuine happiness, passion, and direction.

It's also true that narcissistic traits can rub off on you when you're exposed to one for too long. It's not permanent unless you choose to keep being that way though. When you become a narcissist from childhood (or are born that way, it's up for debate), there is no changing it... it's just too deeply ingrained.

It's just awful, and the worst part is... for the victim's own safety, they just have to abandon the narcissist. They can't use their functional empathy on a narcissist, because the narcissist is a black hole. They will never heal and do the work to be better people. Narcissists are NOT normal people. There is no helping them, at least not for the common person. The only people who should be trying to help a legitimate narcissist is a trained psychological professional... period. Any "regular" person needs to get away from the narcissist, first and foremost. They are very dangerous to the psyche and the general health of their victims.
