You know what, I bet Jesse James has a lot of Kentuckian relatives...

You'd think being a relative of Jesse James would be one of the main historical factoids your family would be passing down to you, but I bet in reality, some of his relatives don't even know they're related to him.

I fucking guarantee it.

This movie is fucking awesome... as a huge Julie Newmar fan, I had no idea she was even in this movie. She stars as Miss Kitty, a saloon owner. I shouldn't be surprised at life's synchronicities at this point, but it never ceases to amaze me. She's basically playing Catwoman, just without the classic black catsuit. It's fucking iconic. First movie I've ever watched on Pluto TV, it's all free but there are ads. Not a big deal. I'm loving this, really interested to see what other movies are on here. I thought this one was gonna be awful, but it's actually really entertaining. I definitely need a pair of assless chaps.

Dude some of these ads/commercials on Pluto are totally hilarious!!!!!!!!!!

Some of this shit could pass for being like 20 years ago... it's kinda freaky. I noticed this when I watched Elon's SNL appearance on the YouTube livestreams last year. I noted that the commercials and the show felt like the 90s or early 2000s or something. And it's not in a nostalgia kinda way... it's deeper than that. It does NOT feel purposeful.
The only bad thing about watching on Pluto is that there are no closed captions on some of these movies apparently... no CC on this one. I REALLY dislike that. I'm glad the movie is on here, that's awesome... just wish they ALL had closed captions.

Bwahahaha oh man... I cannot believe how 100% up my fucking alley this movie actually is. I LOVE it.

It's a hugely rewatchable movie.

Apparently some of the James relatives have done history a disservice by not allowing discussion of the lineage... sad.

It hasn't even been 150 years yet and so much info/preservation of one of the most famous people in American history has already been lost...
I'm just using it as an example. If they ain't gonna remember Jesse James to their children and grandchildren, they sure ain't gonna remember you. Be lost to history... Don't write a word, don't recount a memory, don't share a story... That's how you ensure no one ever hears your name again after you die. Is everybody as legendary as a historical wild west outlaw? Man hell no. But I don't think ANYONE should be forgotten to time. For better or worse.

Everybody needs to be remembered so that we can either learn how to be, or how NOT to be.
The more people who are studied and understood, the better we can understand humanity as a whole... How we got here, and how we can avoid fuckups of the past so that we can go further.

I just watched my first ever episode of Gunsmoke on purpose...
Season 11, Episode 14 - "The Avengers" https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0594392 Of course I've seen Gunsmoke here and there, probably never a whole episode before and I definitely never WANTED to watch it. I've never been much into western movies/shows. I liked Bonanza back when, but it's only cuz I had the hots for Michael Landon. Blazing Saddles was my favorite movie as a teenager though and it does remain a top 5 favorite. In general though, I've avoided westerns. And I'm glad I did... I think things are "saved" for us thanks to our own preferences/aversions because they're supposed to come into our lives at a later time instead.

You know, I love the fashion of the old west.
The women, particularly the barmaids, had a visually appealing stylistic flair. But the cowboy attire is what I really love. I wouldn't wanna have to wear the female garb of the time. I'd have to invent my own kind of wild west inspired attire.

I'll tell you one thing I don't like about Gunsmoke...
It's Miss Kitty's false eyelashes. That makeup is over the top. Maybe in the 1950s the general public didn't know about false lashes and the makeup artists just used them for pure enhancement thinking no one would know they weren't real. All I know is that shit ain't accurate for the time period. That said, the way I'd be dressing for wild west roleplay ain't appropriate for the time period either, so who am I to judge?! ![]()

I'm watching the very first episode of Gunsmoke now. So far this shit is pretty scandalous!!!
04-27-2022, 03:18 AM
Why fuck me, this ain't the first episode of the whole show, it's just the first episode of season 7 lmao.
Looks like Pluto TV only has a few seasons of it.
04-27-2022, 03:22 AM
There are 600+ episodes of Gunsmoke.
There are 300+ episodes of Supernatural in comparison. I STILL haven't finished watching Supernatural and I started that process in 2019. So at that rate it would take me ~7 years to watch Gunsmoke. Not gonna happen, but I think it's amazing that there's so much of this show to enjoy if I ever WANTED to.

Season 12 premier was the first color episode of Gunsmoke. It would have been a trip to see that back in the day. Grow accustomed to seeing your favorite character in black and white for over a decade, then finally one day, there they are in stunning color.
I wonder if they felt the need to enhance color or other aspects of the attire, sets, etc. in order to play up to the new and exciting world of color TV.

Lol Gunsmoke is so dramatic and inspiring.
I'm watching S8 E12 - "The Way It Is"... Miss Kitty's super pissed at Matt. I dunno, there's something so romantic about this show. |
