I would love to cook food and sell it online, like at Etsy or something.
Back like 10 years ago I used to buy super cool baked goods from Etsy as Christmas presents, and they were just delicious.
So cool.
I want to cook and sell the food...
But the hoops you gotta jump through make me sad in the pants.

It's understandable, I get it.
Just sucks that there's so much governmental control over even the most basic things people should be able to do.
I think that it should be like...
You can post photos of your cooking area and record your cooking practices/processes and upload it on YouTube or something...
Then people should be able to decide whether they wanna take the risk of buying from you or not, and just chance it.
We don't need the government a mile up our asses for every little thing.

It's not even about the money...
It's just something that would make me absolutely ridiculously fucking happy to do.

I'm gonna work toward being able to do this, hate the idea of some government stooge inspecting my stuff once per year though...
Just totally obnoxious.

If you sell yardbird, you'll have a USDA inspector standing there in your production facility everyday.

In the mountains of western North Carolina, there's a man who sells milk and eggs on the honor system. You put your money in a jar and get your goods out of the fridge on the front porch.

Every DAY??
Yeah and we'd end up married...
That's how I'd make him regret selling his soul to be an over reaching government prick.

Get his mouth all set for chicken, then feed him vegan food after the wedding.

In the last decade, cottage food laws have become much more lenient in my state. The licensing and testing fees are a lot more affordable, and it's left to your local health department to enforce the new laws.

What you need to do is lobby your state legislature. Form or join an association of other cottage food producers and pester the living shit out of your representatives.

It's a great idea.
I want total freedom though...
There shouldn't be inspectors up our ass ever.
Realistically there has to be a meeting in the middle though, since there ARE real dangers associated with eating stuff that isn't cooked under good conditions.
There should be no requirements whatsoever besides having a health inspector come to your house maybe once or twice per year.

An inspector should be the ONLY requirement, and there should be no requirement for licensure and no requirement to put an address on your food labels.

You can't have any pets in the cooking area, which I 100% agree with.
It'd be cool to put a shed or a pole barn on your property and finish it out with nice clean looking aesthetically pleasing materials and just make it a kitchen and food storage area.

A work shop, but it's a kitchen.

There's no license fee for non-alcoholic products here.
You do have to take a food safety course.
You have to put a label on the product, or a sign at the point of sale, that reads:
“This product was produced in a private residence that is exempt from government licensing and inspection.”

It's the same way here. You can only sell it within the state.
Gotta start somewhere. Once you raise the money for a commercial facility, you can do whatever you want.
