I saw you guys asking about why the site was down. I am not sure what happened there, I am thinking it was probably an issue with the host. I got on Twitter to see if Dreamhost had been down for anyone else and OMG... y'all. THE ABUSE that Dreamhost (and I'm sure all other hosts) take from people who TRULY LOSE THEIR EVER LOVING SHIT when their site goes down. Like, I get it, we pay for a service... but damn, nothing is perfect. Some people are just so rude, it's wild.

It actually made me feel bad for Dreamhost, lmao. It's just... sad. Like why be so mean about it?? They're a decent host, the service is fine... people are legit unhinged about this shit sometimes. I was just busy getting stuff done, I wasn't flipping my lid about some downtime. People need to chill. None of this crap is the end of the world, even if it never came back up... for real. There's like, a whole world out there and stuff. I dunno, it was just sorta hurtful to read that stuff and they weren't even talking to me, lol.

Nah if I took the site down, I would at least embed a music video in the page with a cryptic blurb about feelings...
Ya gotta have a sense of humor in this racket.

Yeah, and you've gotta be willing to let it go. Like the people complaining to DH about downtime... I can understand if your site has paying members or something. In that case, downtime would suck more. But I think if you put a clause in the membership rules saying "some down time might happen cuz duh, it's the internet" then you'd be covered from caring all that much. Somebody actually cited one of Dreamhost's graphics where it says "Always Up"... I'm just like, dude, it's MARKETING. What, do you want them to say "Down Sometimes" instead!? Lmao. That's some shit I would do... not a reputable hosting company. Lol, anyways.
If your site has paying customers, you probably shouldn't be hosting it with Dreamhost anyway. Not to disparage Dreamhost, but running a mission critical site costs a lot more than $20 a month.

They copied and pasted the marketing blurb about their Chicago facility into the blurb about their LA facility, and didn't change the name of the city or anything. And it's been that way for 8 years. lol

MO, add this German search engine to your bots list if you don't want bots to increase view counts on your threads.

The only bots on my site are Google, Bing, etc. Mostly search engines... there are some sus bots that I think are probably AI and I block them whenever I see them.
All suspicious activity gets blocked. I carefully monitor all activity. I have never seen the one you posted the name of, which I edited out because I'm not fucking retarded. If it gets posted on here, it will find the site.
You need to open your own site and don't worry about mine hon.

A lot of views come from people searching keywords... clearly you'd be surprised.
I think you're just being catty... this isn't a contest. Go do your own thing.
Mine is open, and [redacted] is crawling the crap out of it right now. lol
Geez. I'm just giving you a heads up. I looked at my site and saw the view counts were unusually high all of a sudden. Looked in the access log, and this bot was all over it. It's a legit search engine. Go to their site if you don't believe me. You didn't even have to approve my post. That was just for your info. You're the one making a big deal out of it.

I'm glad it's finally open. I see the bots crawling and sort through them, block as needed... ESPECIALLY during the past year. I've made a few threads talking about the uptick in AI crawlers, which is what I hate the most... pure theft. I don't block Google or Bing though and they are the ones trawling the most. Of course Bing is straight AI now. I still don't want to block the MAIN search engines. Over the years I have discovered the most troubling bot activity from sources that aren't well known. It's a rabbit hole. Keep your site up and running for some years, watch the traffic and you will see. It's different than it used to be in years past.

You'll notice some fucked up shit that you've never seen before this time around running your own site. It's even changed since the last time you had that site hosted. I said a while back I wanted to talk to you about something related to this issue. I wasn't joking. I am still not going to say anything because it's pretty dire if true. Sit back and watch for any strange activity and specifically if you run into trouble posting shit on your own site... then we'll talk.
I'm only blocking a sus Ukrainian bot. I'm not blocking this one. I don't want MyBB to count bots as page views because I want to see how many real humans are hitting it. There's a setting in the admin for that.
