THIS is what YouTube was created for!
This just reminded of a story a Mennonite friend told me years ago... he went to a Silver Suns Pickups concert in like 1999 somehow met the band backstage, and handed the singer a twenty dollar bill... cuz he felt guilty for downloading their album off Napster, lol
Reply
That actually makes no sense cuz I just looked up Silversun Pickups and they weren't formed until 2000 and the song I remember
wasn't until 2006. I think I meant The Doves. Their song Catch the Sun was from 2000. I think that's what I meant. Or that story was from after 2006?
Ugh I hope AI replaces me soon

Lol OK after some texting I found out it WAS Silversun Pickups in 2007 and he'd gotten the album off LimeWire.
I've always (kind of) remembered that story and given him credit for that. Hell all we were doing was listening to
the music we stole, not autopsying and reanimating it lol...
I don't think the AI feels guilt though or maybe it's not even stealing... tbh I don't really know wtf it's doing...
The music sounds great though!

$18 for cds was a ripoff though and I wasn't a Mennonite, so I never felt too guilty.

Wow I haven't heard this song in ages and it's actually pretty cringe with like kids in the video haha...
What's really weird is the lead singer actually looks kinda like my Mennonite friend who gave him money lol... Jesus Christ bring on the AI!

Or it's demons so keep it away? I'm a primitive but surely someone more advanced knows what to do.
That band sucks though lol... he should've kept the 20

Lolol... I fucking love you GXT.

Look, this is weird for me. I was wholly against AI, I mean you can look back at the threads/posts I made about it.

But I just didn't see this coming. It's almost kind of suspicious...

I mean, "new" 1970s funk music with fully customizable lyrics??

That sounds like some shit the SAYT-ENN himself would offer you on the mountaintop and be like, "Yo, this could all be yours."

Thing is, I don't really get that vibe from it. I don't get a balls deep evil vibe from what I've been hearing.

Some of the lyrics are horrible, like that trashy song about abortion, but that's just cuz they're taking lyrics from new "popular" music in order to get attention on the thing in the first place.

So that's the only reason why there's ANYTHING bad about it at this juncture.

If that were eliminated, then in my estimation, it'd just be straight up good.

As far as downloading/pirating music in the early days...

I dunno if any of y'all remember this but sometimes you'd download a song and not listen to it first and just rip it straight to CD...

And then you're just playing the CD on your bitchin' stereo and all the sudden one of the songs come on it's just the LOUDEST MOST DEMONIC SOUNDING WALL OF FUCKING NOISE EVERRRRRR cuz the file was corrupt.

Lol. That used to happen to me kinda frequently, until I learned to check and make sure the song was fine before I actually burnt it to a CD.

I don't miss those days... there are much better ways to rip music from YouTube etc. if you need to, I haven't pirated anything since prolly like 2005.

I mean LISTEN TO THIS SHIT...

I just put in a prompt vaguely describing what I want the song to be about, and the generated lyrics are SO ON POINT.

They're actually FUNNY.

It's UNBELIEVABLE.

Now personally, I do prefer to write song lyrics myself. I love writing lyrics.

But I intend to let the AI do some of it for me, just depends on how serious I want the song to be.

I love this.

It feels good... doesn't feel negative at all.

But I don't think it bodes well for actual singers/music in the future, cuz you can make literally anything with this. Basically for free.

There will always be people who prefer real humans singing real stuff, and of course that's what I'd side with too.

I side with humans, and human-made art 100%.

But this, in my opinion, is just good clean fun and I see no reason to resist it.

I mean COME ON.

There's no way to hate this.

Listen to how GOOD THAT SOUNDS.

Even the instrumental parts, fucking NAILED.

The lyrics that AI generates from your prompt are clever, fitting, and almost never bad from what I can tell.

I am straight up in love.

Truly. Deeply.

OK yeah that site is insanely awesome... I didn't mean to interrupt your enthusiasm with my lunatic ramblings lol

It does weird me out more than the chat or drawing ones though for some reason...
I guess because it seems like it's way better quality. Maybe computers get music easily because it's so math related

I suppose the questions about the hoovering up of all the material for training AI will be something for the lawyers to get richer on for the next decade, until they get replaced by AI themselves, then the AI can argue with itself lol

Humans are really kind of insane... If birds cared this much about who owned their songs they would all be woodpeckers

Banging their heads against trees

I say this as a non-musician of course, lol...
I guess it's only gotten insane since recording was possible. And I'm sure most of the money generated hasn't even gone to the artists.

This morning I was trying to time how long the pauses were between the repetition of this one bird's song that was particularly pretty. I got out a stopwatch and everything, but by the time I had it out, he'd wrapped up the song with a final/different set of notes. It was pretty interesting.
