(12-17-2017, 10:33 PM)Mister Obvious Wrote: Dude it's 100% weird AF that you mention Eyes Wide Shut... I just re-watched it... Over all, it's a pretty boring movie. If Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise with their impossibly fine asses hadn't been in the lead roles, it really would have flopped. But I think I do have a deeper insight on it now... TBH man, I think the movie would have been a lot better if it was just a straight up murder flick and Tom's character simply killed his wife. She was unlikable from her first scene. I watched it on double speed most of the time and it flowed just fine, which is rarely the case with any video in general. Dunno why Kubrick wanted them to talk so slow. It was very purposely slowed down and I don't get that stylistic choice, but okay. I felt so bad for Cruise's character, the way everything just devolved into nightmarish sexual depravity on every front. Like evil could smell evil and it could also instantly spot anything good that wasn't part of its system. People who think this movie was just an excuse to show a bunch of titties and ass and sex scenes are really dense. It's a sad movie, not much else. Even the ritual scenes were totally overhyped. Yeah, it's obviously a huge part of the movie, but it's almost like it was just used to get attention. Almost kind of a cheap tactic. The real point of the movie was that the emotional betrayal of infidelity warps everything around it. Makes everything dark and fucked up, and from there, the demons just descend until everything is tainted. I did notice the ill-fated SnackWell's devil food cakes product placement though... lol. Clever. Overall man, people have read way too far into this movie since the day it came out, and I think they were largely wasting their time. For real. I've read some WILD takes on this movie and almost none of them apply to the reality of the film whatsoever. And if it hadn't been a Kubrick film, his last no less, I certainly don't think people would still be mentioning it today.

The sex scenes in "A Clockwork Orange" were a lot better.
Also, the Vietnamese prostitutes in "Full Metal Jacket" make me horny every time.

I was trying to remember if I ever saw Tom Cruise's ass in Eyes Wide Shut, but I feel like they never showed it.
I only remember like maybe seeing his nipples. You'd think I'd recall. I definitely remember Nicole Kidman's ass. I feel like Tom didn't want much nudity on his part, can't blame him. He's a classy dude.

So right now I'm like halfway through "Risky Business" (1983) continuing my Tom Cruise kick and I gotta say...
This movie is fucking dark, yo. How was this ever framed as a comedy? I don't think I've laughed a single time. It's not funny, it's sad. Really sad actually. This kid listens to an asshole friend, gets his life wrecked by a hooker, and then at his lowest moment, the only person he has to run and cry to is said hooker?? Really?? It's grim dude... the '80s weren't THAT different of a time, this shit was never funny. The only scene from this movie you EVER see is Tom Cruise dancing around in his underwear. It's a total misrepresentation. It's like I got fucking trolled or something. Dude, I rented this. I PAID TO WATCH THIS. And it's DEPRESSING?? Excuse me? Like if it had been marketed for what it truly is, A SAD MOVIE, I wouldn't feel so deceived. And I wouldn't have watched it either. 1:05:20 dude oh my God, and it just gets WORSE AND WORSE. WHAT THE FUCK!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Bro, FUCK this movie. Even Bronson Pinchot can't save this fucking shitshow. AND IT HAS TOM CRUISE IN IT. And I still low key fucking hate it. That's pretty bad. And what's with all the smoking?? There were some pretty heinous continuity errors with the cigarettes in that diner scene. My God, is this really all it takes to be declared a classic? Tom Cruise would FUCKING NEVERRRR be in a movie like this these days, I'll tell you that much. Even like... in the late '80s or the early '90s, I guarantee you he'd have passed this shit WAY the fuck up. THE ENTIRE MOVIE is exactly like that stereotypical scene in a slasher flick where the chick's about to get killed and she's in a dark hallway slowly reaching for a doorknob or some shit. Like honest to God that's what it's giving. He's getting turned into a sleazy friggen pimp and that's supposed to be the bright spot in this movie?? I cannot. Apparently the Director's Cut has an alternate ending where he gets rejected from the university he wanted to go to. It was supposed to be the "serious" ending. I really wonder what they're gonna pull out of their ass that makes the regular ending any better. 1:13:40 there are tons of scenes where it shows pictures of him as a little kid, it's SUPPOSED TO BE SAD. I've only ever heard this was a comedy... how did it end up being SOOO misunderstood?? This is warped man. 1:15:50 oh so NOW he's coming to his senses? Dude this movie is frustrating as hell. You know what, I think the director WANTED this to be a drama, a cautionary tale, but they told him it was too serious and they needed to market it as a comedy. I seriously think that's what happened. 1:18:20 now they're playing "In The Air Tonight"... there's NO FUCKING WAY this was meant to be funny. So in one way I'm relieved, but on the other hand, if I was the director and this is how they ended up marketing my movie, I'd be pissed the fuck off. Painting it as a comedy when it's meant to be serious is really offensive. I wonder how he felt about it?? AHA!!!!!! Quote:Brickman felt that the film's unique tone was difficult for studios to understand, and he ultimately had to compromise on the ending, which he felt was less ambiguous than he originally intended. SEE??!?!?!? I fucking knew it. "In The Air Tonight" was released in 1981... so it was basically a new song when this movie came out. Wild. See, that song paints an entire atmosphere. It was supposed to be dark. It was MEANT to be dark. That director got done fucking dirty. Totally depressing movie. Worst part about is that this is the role Rebecca De Mornay's fine ass is best known for. I wish it could have been something else.

I'm watching "Cocktail" (1988) now and it's about a million times better.
Just trying to get all my Tom Cruise essential viewing out of the way. I was pretty nervous this movie was gonna suck, but thankfully it's very enjoyable so far. When I was a kid, we had the soundtrack on CD. I used to listen to Kokomo and Don't Worry Be Happy.

I fucking love Tom Cruise, I can't help it.

Tom Cruise's mom looks like Tom Cruise in drag...
https://i.imgur.com/QaBpte7.jpeg And I am living for it, God bless that woman. She birthed a legend! Hard to find pics of his dad, this actually seems like the only one out there... https://i.imgur.com/r6dGVBu.png Apparently he was abusive, poor Tom. I guess that's why there isn't much to be found about him. I do think their names are suspicious though. Your name doesn't end "Mapother IV" without being from SOME kind of prestigious family, but according to Tom, it was a humble upbringing and they weren't well off. ![]()

Then again, I also have other theories about people who are named after their fathers in a long line...
Usually it stops with the third, if it's anywhere near a "normal" family. I think it's sad to name a kid after his dad and not give him any unique identifiers. Coolass name in Tom's case though.

Without the "Cruise" part it would have sucked though.

"Mission Impossible 2" is my favourite Tom Cruise movie.
I like "Minority Report", but his character was try-harding too much.

Almost forgot about "Collateral". Tom is kind of playing an evil "Ethan Hunt".
