I'm eating Chicken in a Bisket crackers right now.
Hard tack is much harder than crackers. You'll break your teeth on it if you don't dip it in something to soften it up.
I'm pretty such some sort of cracker-like bread has been around since the dawn of agriculture. I mean mixing flour and water and baking it is about the simplest and most obvious kind of bread.
