You travel around and get too far off the beaten path and you're risking death in more forms than can even be counted or conceived of.
He needs to stay in one general locale.
Historically, areas in Arizona seemed to work the best for him.
AZ, CA, whatever. They're so close that you can do both.
But Mexico is Zane's weakness and unless he can be strong enough not to go there and ultimately choose death... then he should stay away from that whole entire homeless/cowboy/western scene.

Wherever those are, that's where Zane should be.
