It's basically energy from workers... so anybody who is "feisty" comes in and does any work in your home, ESPECIALLY electrical work, they can leave a stain. But usually they're only there at certain times and don't pack the same punch or have the same range as somebody who actually lived in the place.
And you can live in a place for a substantial amount of time and not really leave any stains to speak of. Just depends.
