A few words on Detective Delicato.
Firstly, I love this character! To me, she's the embodiment of a perfectly balanced Woman.
She's beautiful, feminine, extremely intelligent and she's got balls! She's complete in herself but she's
not one of those feminazi types who hates men, hates the world and lives a miserable lone existence
of bitterness and regret. She's Evolved. She get's it. Nothing stands in her way, ever.
I grew up in a houseful of women, so my heart certainly goes out to them. I like to see truly empowered
females. Not the agenda-driven fakes that now saturate society. That's not empowerment, it's just brute
force in numbers. When the world is full of screaming, it's the whisper you should hold out to hear.
I detest the idea of women being marginalized, mistreated or abused. So strength of character is a non-negotiable
trait to be cultivated from a young age for them. For everyone really. But it has to be pure, Real. Delicato got
the right upbringing, in my opinion. Maybe she had to scratch it out for herself but regardless of how she got
to the dance; she's definitely the prettiest most well-informed girl there! A powerhouse that is both super-hero
AND damsel in distress. In the perfect combination. Just the right recipe. She feels otherworldly but still very
much realistically Earth-bound.
This I think, is one of - if not THE major reason why - I love writing for her character. I know that no matter
what she does or where she goes, she's going to do it ALL the way, with ALL her heart! Righteously. There's
no half-measures with her! All in or stay home! And I don't think it's about obsession. I really feel it's coming
from a sense of duty to always do the right thing for its own sake. Passion. Drive. It's in her DNA.
I feel extremely comfortable with this character. It's almost easy writing her scenes/stories. I feel them
first. Then I see them, in my mind's eye. Then I watch them play out in my head, like a movie. They're
always Perfect! Even though I am FAR from it! Her blueprint is staggering and True. And it's a real blessing
that I get to work with her.
Thanks again, MO, for sharing this character and Universe here. It's been a wonderful experience and I've
thoroughly enjoyed seeing the world through her eyes, even if in brief glimpses.
