WandaVision (2021) - Review & Commentary
WARNING: SPOILERS. HAPPENING. BELOW. DON'T READ IT IF YOU DON'T ALREADY KNOW.
S1E1 - "Filmed Before a Live Studio Audience"
Wow, just checking out a few promotional pics for this show... Elizabeth Olsen is really gorgeous. She has a totally amazing smile. She really looks like her sisters, but different enough so that you wouldn't necessarily think they're triplets. I hope things have been easier for Elizabeth than they were for her sisters, Mary-Kate and Ashley. Those girls really did go through a lot... their childhoods really influenced the rest of their lives in a pretty serious way. I mean, it always does, but... their early lives were particularly impactful, what with the intense spotlight of fame, and the way some of their associations and interactions with other actors turned out.
0:50 wow the vintage prowess of this show is downright impressive!
1:48 that seems harder than just putting the shit away as normal.
3:30, fuck I gotta admit... so far, I don't like either one of them.
I don't like him or her. For several reasons. I don't really like the pairing of their voices, I don't really like the way she's talking in this role (not sure what her voice usually sounds like), and his accent seems out of place in this context.
I know these are pretty wank opinions, but I have to be true.
I think the 'decade per episode' feature of this show, as OP pointed out, is pretty brilliant. Cuz if the whole show was like this first episode, I for fucking sure would not be watching it. I'm hopeful about where this show goes from here because this is such a brilliant concept, and I'd hate to hate it.
3:40 I think the idea that they can't remember what the heart on the calendar is for is just so vaguely dumb and hilarious.
4:00 I like this Agnes character, thank God for her. The humor on this show is very 'grandpa jokey'... lmfao. It's like, sleazy car salesmen jokey. I think it's probably because that was sorta the comedy of the era and they were trying to do the '50s thing? I dunno. To me it seems a tad forced. But maybe that's the point, or their style is just lost on me. That's how it is, and that's why there are so many different types of artistry and expertise. We're not all into the same things.
4:10 she brought her a houseplant, that's pretty badass.
4:14 pause right in here somewhere, this is what I mean about Elizabeth Olsen's smile. She is insanely gorgeous, it's true... but. I mean. So are a lot of people. What's remarkable about her? Well, I would say she is on the higher end of pretty. That seems to be about it though. Low end pretty can be more multifaceted and interesting, and I'd have to know what EO is all about before I judge whether she's high end or low end pretty at the end of the day. She looks like an overly pretty girl next door type actually. I guess the spectrum of pretty is in the eye of the beholder.
4:20 "those boxes don't move themselves" roflmfaolfalofmafoafaoflal.
4:50 I wonder if the acting is intentionally weird?
5:43 I thought she was gonna burst into song and I almost grimaced, rofl. I honestly feel like it should have happened though, no BS, I was open to it. I totally would have skipped the musical sequence but deep down I kinda wanted it.
5:58 "computational forms" lol.
6:10 roflmfao @ the lyrics remark, yeah, that's so funny to think about. I guess I like Vision better than Wanda. Still don't like either one of them all that much though, there's just something off about the dynamics. I don't understand why Wanda and Vision are together.
https://time.com/5929411/vision-scarlet-...andavision
So it's SUPPOSED to come off exactly the way it's coming off. In that case I'd say they did a good job. But it's a bit... I dunno, uncomfortable isn't it? It's got such a slight undertone of eeriness to it somehow.
6:30 it makes me think about other shows I've seen where the main character is having some kinda dream, usually in the hospital or somewhere like that... and the dream is TV themed. This is a thing! It's a trope! For real.
8:00 that's a really big suit jacket.
8:55 I'm sorry but these bitches are not likable at all.
10:08 it's almost like they're implying he's holding a cigarette but he's not. He totally should be.
11:05 ROFLMAO OMG!!!
13:20 how in the fuck does she have the power to change her clothes, but she can't just summon a crazy dinner??
16:40 they need to invite her in to entertain these folks!
19:20 so this is where the dream starts to come apart, I wonder if the show will acknowledge that Wanda's in a dream state and that it's her dream.
19:33 I think this is kind of an acknowledgement. How no one reacts until she does.
21:40 those are some heavy looking eyelashes.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scarlet_Witch
A whole show based around the 'regular, human' version of a superhero who is in a dream state. Gotchya.
I bet she's pretty hot as the Scarlet Witch in those movies. It's another case of needing to watch all the movies etc. that came before this.
If it was a universally likable show, I'd like it without knowing the backstory.
I do think they painted this parody version of a '50s show with a heavy hand... it was a little too goofy.
S1E2 - "Don't Touch That Dial"
1:30 the lamp bit was cute, but I'm not sure why. I actually don't get it! I even thought about it super hard.
2:20 rofl okay that was funny!
2:55 so I guess this is the 60s?
3:36 indeed Bewitched was an appropriate parody choice for this show since Wanda and Vision are a married couple and there are parallels. A lot of shows in that era started out black & white and ended up in color.
6:20 his makeup is amazing. This video talks about the makeup process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50ONkDjaUZs
15:20 uh oh, this is getting juicy!!!
15:35 another meltdown moment.
"Who's doing this to you, Wanda?" Kinda begs the question of whether this dream state is being forced upon Wanda.
The effects of the color working its way in to the show is great, really well done. It really is sort of a disturbing show though.
I don't think it's a great show by any means, but artistically it is pretty well done. It has that 'film student art project' kinda feel in some ways. Only, not as good. Lol!
18:35 this 'for the children' thing is also kind of creepy... there aren't even children anywhere in the audience. The whole show has this creepy undertone.
19:28 lmao.
19:40 seems like they're smearing TPTB's faces in shit by telling the masses that they're lied to, to their freaking faces while they're treated WORSE than orphans... treated more like CATTLE to the slaughter!!!
22:22 "out of MYSELF!" roflmfaoflamfaololol, that's some good shit. "I'm doin' it!" ROFLMFAO.
27:15 whoa, this scene is kinda hot.
28:57 these effects are really pretty.
S1E3 - "Now In Color"
2:27 so now it's the 70s.
7:56 "IT STOPPED!" lol okay, this is pretty great.
18:35 dumb as shit but I'm glad they got it over with fast. I don't like the whole child birthing thing being brought into sitcoms.
S1E4 - "We Interrupt This Program"
1:28 pretty cool special effects with the particles coming together... again, very well done.
6:02 so she's some kinda space traveler!? Rofl! No idea WTF is going on here.
8:45 is this even the same fucking show??
11:47 the past few episodes should have been a movie instead of a show.
14:00 this is actually a really interesting concept.
14:07 so when this outsider guy comes up through the manhole and Wanda says no, it may mean she is choosing to remain in the dream state.
26:55 this is probably the first time the show has really gotten good... almost at the end of the 4th episode.
S1E5 - "On a Very Special Episode"
1:40 now it's the 80s/90s!
2:00 seeing him dressed normally but still wearing all the makeup is a trip. Paul Bettany is kinda charming. Definitely the most likable character.
6:13 roflmao. Wow man, this episode is pretty weird so far.
18:20 so much better than the way the show started out. I'm glad they're finally explaining what's really going on and giving some backstory too.
19:40 Vision is starting to figure things out.
24:16 so this is her emerging as the Scarlet Witch.
26:30 I LOVE big 80s hair!!!
29:06 I like the makeup too.
30:50 oh this is HOT!!!!!!!!!
33:17 it's Evan Peters as Quicksilver, Wanda's brother. I just found out this episode that she's his sister. I love Quicksilver.
S1E6 - "All-New Halloween Spooktacular!"
I do have to wonder if Disney will ever make a show as good as WandaVision again.
1:50 early 2000s, unmistakable! They really nailed it! Love it!
11:55 that's a really powerful scene.
12:35 lmao wow that is fucked up.
13:18 seems like they've really run Evan Peters through the ringer. I think he hates 'em.
26:40 wow. It's a great story with great special effects.
29:35 this is really cool. It took like 4 entire episodes to get good, but now they're really delivering.
S1E7 - "Breaking the Fourth Wall"
2:08 that's a badass duvet cover.
3:30 I guess this is supposed to be like The Office.
7:23 roflmfaolololol. I can really relate to this.
7:49 "one split end away from cutting her own bangs" ROFLMAOOOO, always a huge mistake!!!
19:30 it's like when we used to imagine climbing through the TV into another world when we were kids!!!
19:58 wow I think this chick just became a superhero.
20:15 this is kind of what the air looks like... I discussed it here: https://www.sectual.com/thread-5371.html
28:10 okay that's a lot more than just a basement, lmao!
I think she's gotta stop creating this weird dream world soon because she can't keep it up much longer.
29:00 wow, this is definitely the coolest scene in the whole show so far and it belongs to Agatha!
S1E8 - "Previously On"
4:36 I guess we know who my new favorite character is!
14:30 wow, I never expected them to offer an actual explanation for Wanda's fixation on these classic TV shows. It's quite moving, I totally approve.
34:16 this is so melodramatic. But this is where it all began, wow!
34:26 it's definitely an entertaining and mostly unique story though... I think it would have made a great (kinda long-ish) movie. I think the main reason it's in show format is because it parodies TV shows.
S1E9 - "The Series Finale"
3:02 wow, this version of Vision looks like an angel, that's hot!!!
4:40 I definitely like red Vision's personality better though.
8:28 it's her "destiny" to destroy the world? Lmao, isn't that a lil much??
30:17 I like her outfit and her hair is great.
36:20 this had to be written by a Pisces.
Anyways...
I guess that's it. I guess it's over.
It was a pretty good story.
All in all the Scarlet Witch seems pretty cool...
Seems a lil too powerful to be a mere witch, but this is a universe of imagination, so...
It's an interesting story, I liked the other witch lady's purple essence better than the red color scheme, but I guess 'Purple Witch' just doesn't hit the same.
