It felt like theater to me, which it is, but theater within theater if you will. He is going to act weird and awkward so as to affect a visage of not knowing what he’s doing. In the meantime, there sure are a lot of cutting-edge (no pun intended) long-form tunneling Boring-Company drills hanging out - by far the greatest and most efficient mining tools in existence, which look an awful lot like they would fit nicely as an attachment to a space fairing vehicle.
A man who wants to “rape mars of its resources for financial gain” is not nearly as appealing a brand as An awkward genius who wants to help save humanity.
