"Gunsmoke" (1955) - Review & Commentary
S7 E1 - "Perce"

1:42 James Arness has such a beautiful voice... he sounds so genuinely friendly and sincere.

2:30 super hot meeting random strangers out on the prairie.

3:18 God I love men, they're so sexy. Especially the rough ones!

3:36 lol, cowboy campfire "locker room" talk.

6:28 hot damn that was a smooth, brave move right there. I guess the best outlaw wins, huh?

9:40 must be nice to fall asleep to one of them cowboy fires!!!

10:22 HAH! HOT DAMN! I HAVE seen this episode! I thought it seemed vaguely familiar, took 10 minutes of watching til I recognized it!

This is the first time this has happened on this thread. Now it's time for me to go back and find my original post about it...

Lol, OMG.

I'm realizing now that the Pluto TV labels were so fucked up, it may not even be titled accurately. I'm having trouble locating it in the thread. Hmmm...

Well, I searched and searched, but apparently I didn't talk about this episode when I watched it.

Perplexing.

I KNOW I've seen it because of this alarm clock scene with Chester.

I guess I will continue commentating as normal. It must have been one of the very first that I watched.

I find it mega hard to believe that I didn't at least document that I watched the episode in the first place, but okay.

11:00 OMG and I just realized that season 7 marks the beginning of the hour long episodes as well. It brings up a conflict for me with this particular episode...

Since I am SUPPOSED to always commentate no matter what, the fact that I never said anything about THIS episode necessitates that I watch it in full again though.

So the new rule is that if I do come across another episode I HAVE seen but didn't commentate on, I will have to watch it in full again.

Y'all caught me slippin'.

It is what it is. I try my best, but nobody's perfect.

As far as rewatching this, I really must say, it is VERY interesting to see it again with this more in-depth perspective that I have of the show now. I guess that's why it took me so long to recognize I'd already seen it.

I only know of one other episode that I watched without commentating on, and that was because it was too late at night. I must have been more dedicated to watching by the time I saw that episode because I remember making a mental note that I would have to rewatch it once I got the box set.

I'm guessing this had to be one of the first couple of episodes I ever watched.

11:20 knowing so much more about Chester now and how sometimes he's kinda clumsy really adds a deeper layer to this viewing experience though. I really love this show.

12:45 I reckon he's about the nicest outlaw around.

13:30 lol the look on his face when he walks in the door just makes Kitty's line that much more perfect. It's these subtleties that really drew me in when I was watching this show on Pluto TV.

16:46 ah, I see where I commentated on this episode before. It was Miss Kitty's false eyelashes that helped me connect the dots...

It's Miss Kitty's false eyelashes.

That makeup is over the top.

Maybe in the 1950s the general public didn't know about false lashes and the makeup artists just used them for pure enhancement thinking no one would know they weren't real.

All I know is that shit ain't accurate for the time period.

That said, the way I'd be dressing for wild west roleplay ain't appropriate for the time period either, so who am I to judge?!

I'm watching the very first episode of Gunsmoke now. So far this shit is pretty scandalous!!!

Why fuck me, this ain't the first episode of the whole show, it's just the first episode of season 7 lmao.

Lol Gunsmoke is so dramatic and inspiring.

Pluto TV's faulty labels were the reason for the confusion.

17:12 lmfao, story of my life ordering stuff on Amazon!

17:40 oh my damn, I love a man who goes after what he wants!

18:38 she'll never be so lucky as to have you, fella.

22:55 this chick is just trouble, that's all she is, and she ain't the most beautiful woman in the world like he claims... she's a dime a dozen and if he hangs around Dodge for another week, something better will come along. But I think we all know that's not the way this is gonna work out.

TBH I don't even remember how it DOES work out, I don't recall WTF actually happens, so that's kinda awesome!?

23:20 she's right though.

24:06 damn dude this scene kinda suggests Chester could be getting low key tired of his position here, lol!

26:50 look at him going to all that trouble for this woman, I'm tellin' ya she ain't worth it!

28:06 What. A. Bitch.

29:40 I don't even know why he'd be interested in her anymore after hearing that kind of attitude out of her. I mean you COULD say hey, at least she's honest... but damn. Worth it? Definitely not. He deserves so much better.

31:40 the episodes going to ~50 minutes makes the character development a lot deeper... I think the show will be even better with these longer episodes. The next phase of the show that I'm worried about is when Marshal Dillon starts to be featured less. He's in every episode, but apparently he eventually becomes almost a back burner character, with guest stars taking up most of the plots. Hopefully at least one central character like Festus will still be strongly featured in those episodes.

34:28 Jim the stagecoach driver is my favorite side character. He's absolutely gorgeous and so great in this role.

36:30 lmao the look on his face, he's like "WTF are you going over to the Lady fricken Gay for?!?!?"

38:08 she's got some pretty baller bracelets on though.

39:58 I'd be firing Ida's troublesome ass if I were Kitty. It's not like that wouldn't be the perfect shakeup in this situation.

41:50 "Three kings." My jaw fucking dropped. It absolutely. Totally dropped when I heard this. I CANNOT believe this. It's one of THE WEIRDEST MOST OUTLANDISH SYNCHRONICITIES I've EVER had. So I'm sitting here watching this episode, shuffling a deck of playing cards as I love to do. I play with cards a lot, it's whatever, nunyabizniz. Anyway, 4 cards fall out together... the King of Clubs, the King of Spades, the King of Diamonds, and the 6 of Spades. I'm staring at the cards thinking, damn, it's rare that happens. I keep looking at the cards and I think to myself, "Three kings. Hm, that sounds kinda cool, it'd make a really cool brand name." So I put the cards back in the deck, start shuffling again... this scene comes on and THIS GUY SAYS "THREE KINGS." https://i.imgur.com/KWhk4l4.png *universal mic drop*

42:35 this guy should just keep being a gambler, it obviously makes him happy.

43:20 pft, whatever... I think Miss Kitty needs to powder her pimp hand and smack the shit out of this bar bitch!

43:40 this guy's sweating... bro, never let 'em see you sweat.

48:30 looks like he's going for death by Dillon. Can't say I blame him.

49:50 I love the way he walks off into the darkness at the end.

50:00 pretty new closing credits graphics.
