I had a parrot when I was a kid, and I know first hand that they understand context when it comes to what they're saying.

I also don't believe they should EVER be kept as pets. Maybe if they live with a pirate on a tropical island or something...

But otherwise, no. No way. Birds should never be kept as pets. There are a lot of animals that should not be kept as pets.
