"Gunsmoke" (1955) - Review & Commentary
S14 E10 - "The Miracle Man"

0:40 I really love the hairstyles they have Miss Kitty wearing this season... https://imgur.com/a/D6TYdxp

4:57 Gunsmoke always delivering on that outlaw eye candy... https://i.imgur.com/K7cirnV.png

6:30 I recognize this girl actress but I dunno where she's from. Apparently her name is Lisa Gerritsen and she retired in the late '70s. That's pretty awesome. She got them money bags and got out!

7:27 hell yeah, fearless shotgun totin' prairie lady for the win!

7:40 oooooo, I like her! Sandra Smith... she retired in the '70s too. I recognize her from an episode of Columbo.

9:06 damn... what a day.

10:30 look how charmed she is back there. Charming dudes like this always get all the taint.

11:13 "That's another most important thing in making anything happen. You must try again." Word though.

11:32 lol @ the "magic" jingle... reminds me of Bewitched.

12:18 well I guess he's their new dad!?

13:00 the ferry?! There's a ferry around Dodge?? To where??

14:27 oh come on now, charming or not, you'd think she'd find that timing a little sus. I guess they were right to be giving this guy a beat down.

14:55 hell, she's even got an upstairs. He's seeing dollar signs, but I dunno what his plan could possibly be.

17:50 it's so bitchin' that Festus can technically be called Marshal now.

19:00 I dig this lady's hair.

21:07 I'd give him the tail for a few nights in a row and then tell him to get on his way, but that's just me.

22:04 you can stop wasting the water anytime now bro, what, do you think that shit grows on trees!?

22:36 he kinda sounds like Ted Bundy.

25:34 damn, I wish Festus would come riding up on my land every day!!!

27:10 seems to me they're highlighting the "just believe" thingy and suggesting it's a load of whack. I'd agree with that to some extent, however they're bringing the "do something about it" aspect into the equation too, and that shit ain't wrong. These days in the airy-fariy popularized mystical teacher circles, they've started leaving the "inspired action" part off altogether. I think it's just a sign of the rate of societal degradation since this show was made.

27:17 I paused on this still and I thought it was real pretty... https://i.imgur.com/Bt2JlO5.png

28:00 wonder what's wrong with the kid? Maybe leukemia or something?

28:15 "A pinch of faith, a dab of doin', and a whole lot of believin' it's gonna be done."

29:40 gah... this guy is scum. How exactly is this gonna end with Marshal Dillon shooting him? Maybe Festus gets a kill instead. That would be equally hot.

32:55 yeah, you feel that kick in the nuts, ya fuckin' bastard? Do you even have a soul bro? Prove it, a-hole.

34:18 agh, my God this is intense... agh. Ayyyyeghhh.

34:35 oh man... agh. I can hardly stand this. Seriously. This fucking guy better change his ways, he really better.

35:06 deprrrresssinnnnngggg.

35:17 what're you gonna do now, ya friggen waste case???

35:40 fuck you! With your healthy kid and your ugly hats! *flip off*

37:17 roflmfaololol.

38:55 dude, this freaking random drunkard guy is a pure fire character, they need to get him to replace Louie stat. I ain't hating on Louie, but when you're generally likeable, you're generally likeable and that's all there is to it.

40:20 don't even try to make sense of it bro.

44:50 look at those mountains... #DefinitelyNotKansas

47:30 so the shot of them coming out of the door of the Marshal's Office is filmed on the studio set and then it cuts to the outdoor set.

49:15 fuckin' guy.

50:05 well. Ya know. As far as I can tell, Gunsmoke shows no signs of slowing down. It shows no signs of an inevitable suck approaching. I dunno how the fuck they did it... I honestly don't.

The more time goes on, the more it feels sorta like... Little House on the Prairie or something. It feels like it transitioned into this timeless zone where it can escape the bounds of what it used to be, yet somehow maintain all the elements that made it what it is. The central characters are all there, and they're still foundational parts of the show... but they did a damn good ridiculously epic job of making these guest characters successfully carry the episodes.

It has that Little House sense only because it's got that 1970s vibe to it now. This episode was from 1968, Little House started in 1974. This is like the golden age of wholesome TV... a time period wherein they dealt with slightly more risque topics at times, but still upheld moral standards. I don't see how it can really fail at this point. Don't get me wrong... if they start trying to take on some kinda bleeding heart social issues, it can definitely happen. But I just don't see it sucking yet.
