If Elon was really concerned with propagating humanity into the stars, he'd be seeding planets with humans in pods that only activate if the planet becomes inhabitable after thousands of years.
Regardless, I think the main idea isn't to save the human animal, but to preserve its information. We should put time capsules in orbit or drop them on other planets/celestial bodies so that if alien life ever finds it, they can see who we were.
TBH, that's about the best you can hope for. And to do it outside of the solar system would be ideal. We already know there's a dense invisible 'wall' that you start to run into at the edges of the solar system, there's no getting beyond it. All you can do is send radio signals, and that can only ever be digital information.
