Missing411: Strange Disappearances From National Parks
Was it REALLY an owl??

I mean when I got a good look at it, I interpreted it as an owl, no question about it.

It had a giant white (light colored) owl face, the eyes were glowing cuz of my headlights.

It was only after I'd passed it and thought about it for a few seconds that I realized it was at least 3 feet tall.

Why would a giant owl be standing off the side of the road though??

I was the only car around at the time, but that definitely wouldn't have been for long.

The ONLY owl that it could have possibly been on that list is the "rare" Snowy Owl...

That article says they can be up to 28 inches.

I mean...

That's just over 2ft. tall and yeah that's pretty tall but it definitely looked bigger than that.

The coloring definitely seems right on.

Hmmm...

Maybe it was just an extra large snowy owl. Possibly a female.

Quote:The Snowy Owl (Bubo scandiacus), a large raptor rarely observed in the region, spends most of the year in Canada and Alaska. In late fall and winter, large numbers of Snowy Owls sometimes appear south of the Canadian border in the northern Great Lakes states and along the Atlantic Coast in New England. The term biologists use for this phenomena is irruption, when birds or animals migrate into an area in abnormally large numbers. A sighting of just one of these large, all-white owls in northern Kentucky is really special, a rare event that only happens a few years each decade.

I did see it in October.

Shit, maybe it really was a huge snowy owl.

But I still maintain it was more than 28 inches tall.
