Depends on size of rug and whether it wants to walk I suppose.

Couple inches in front of is fine.

I think a couple of reviewers said it walks, even though the manufacturer says the non-slip bottom should prevent it.

The reason I asked is because the seller pictures typically show the front of the furniture sitting on the rug. That looks weird to me. I'm very sensitive to anything that isn't level. I want the front and back of the furniture to be on the same plane.
