I don't think they'd be taking the ship with the rover down to the actual Titanic wreckage site on the ocean floor if they didn't have reason to believe they were down there.
Maybe they just wanna be able to say they did literally everything they could (even against all odds, capable sub vehicles wise) before they announce that they believe the vessel imploded, or they simply can't find anything.
Apparently the tethered rover they're taking has the ability to tow, which is a huge deal. I would have figured they wouldn't be taking a trip down to the actual wreckage site for quite sometime.
But they're doing it.
I think it's 50/50 they think they're actually stuck down there, or they want to be able to tell the public they did everything possible before they announce they're out of oxygen without a doubt and are definitely dead.
If they are able to find the sub down there, they won't be able to bring it back to the top in time to save any survivors, if they can even get hooked up to the sub in the first place.
That said, if they do find the sub (because they already suspect it's there) and actually do bring it to the surface...
It'll be a historical event, only 2 similar rescues have ever taken place.
Would also be monumentally bad for whoever has to open the vessel and discover whatever awful things probably happened in there. Meh... still betting on implosion and they've probably been dead since Sunday.
