Pretty sure he didn't before this incident.
If it starts painting him as some kind of bad guy for what went down, I think that's an indicator that they're trying to smear him.
Not saying what he did wasn't dumb/irresponsible...
I am just saying that there was a lot more to his motivations than we may have previously realized.
