She was on the phone with her mom and her mom's BF when she was getting out and talking to the kid... they didn't hear the kid respond at any point in time, but they heard Carlee scream. I guess that's when the traffickers jumped out of the bushes and attacked her.
People are all confounded that they didn't steal her phone or any of her other belongings. Of course they didn't, they have no use for that shit. They don't want to risk being tracked by her phone.
