As long as you're being a good slave, a man will "love" you. The female feels love, but the male feels either like a successful slave owner, or the owner of a disobeying slave who must be brought in line.
Females must have the ability to love, otherwise their offspring would die, they would have no innate drive to take care of their children. Males don't have this ability, thus why they constantly abandon their children.
