"Home visition program" for families with newborns...
#4
If they hit up a new mom within 3 weeks of the baby being born, she might just tell 'em to take it cuz she can't handle it anymore.

It would actually be a pretty good option for some women to have. But it would take some prying to get most of them to admit they'd rather give the baby up than keep it.

This program seems like it'll focus mostly on the baby, when really it needs to focus on the mental well-being of the mother, if the intentions are to actually help.

The hell of motherhood is the most severe and pronounced within the first 4 years or so, then you sort of resign yourself to the situation and dream of what your life could have been instead. Giving the baby up free and clear usually has to be done within the first 30 days, and adoption's only a super viable option if the kid is still under 4 years old.

I think there are a lot of new mothers out there who would love to give their baby up and just wash their hands of it. Maybe this will give them the opportunity to do so. But toward what end?

To me, this "home visitation program" seems like an attempt to feed the machine.
