In my opinion, Strawberry Swing was the best song from the Viva La Vida/Death and All His Friends album...
[Strawberry Swing - Coldplay]
This is the other album that is strongly tied to my memories of vacationing in Canada. My dad refused to listen to this album at first though, it was too new for him and he didn't really wanna give it a chance. We did end up listening to it a bit though, and he liked a few of the songs. His favorite was Viva La Vida, which I didn't really like all that much. I dunno, I guess it's kinda the 'man song'.
Strawberry Swing though...
It reminds me of this Canadian dude I had a huge crush on... Todd. He hung out across the street from our vacation house. I was so excited to wake up and get the chance to see him every day. I was so excited I didn't even eat. This woman he was in love with lived there, so he'd always go see her. We had that house for about 9 years, and long before Todd, when I was younger, this kid lived across the street who I had a mad crush on. I was 11 and he was 14. Loved him so much. But no Coldplay songs remind me of him.
Back to Todd... I was 18 and Todd was 42. A gruff Irishman, and he wouldn't pay me any attention. At all. I was so desperate for attention from him. He was so great. I caressed his hair once. Me and some other teenage girls used to hang out at the house across the street because their mom lived there (it had three apartments). One of the girls wasn't related though, and she was a lot of fun. She was my little accomplice. We tormented Todd, we just wouldn't stop. We used to get him to drive us down the cove in his muscle car. We'd giggle with each other, "We're in Todd's car, teehee!" He kept playing "Keep On Loving You" by REO Speedwagon. He said he didn't even like the song, but one of his special ladies made the CD for him and he just thought it was funny.
Such a great guy... balls of steel. Never caved once to a couple of obnoxious little teenage girls constantly flirting with him... never showed any kind of weakness, never paid us any mind. He did give me a hug though, just before I left. We were all at his parent's house (amazing people), saying goodbye. I couldn't believe it, Todd hugged me of his own volition. It was one of the happiest moments of my life... to hug Todd. I was so excited, I hardly remember what it felt like. Haven't seen him since. I still love Todd.
