David Suchet AKA Poirot, another one of my intense man crushes...
#10
My only issue with these Poirot stories is that there are always at least 3 different people in each one of them who deserve to be killed, and the ones who do get killed are rarely even the least likeable ones.

I notice a lot of recurring themes in Agatha Christie's stories. She talks about mirrors a lot. I guess she must have done something right though, she's still the best selling author of all time, right behind Shakespeare. That's impressive.

What I love about the screen adaptation of Poirot is that they were so masterfully brought to life. Suchet changes his voice, his movements, and he was even fitted with padding to make him appear bulkier in certain areas.

I also love Hastings... Hugh Fraser did such an amazing job with the character, I love the way he moves. Honestly, he's pretty hot too. Even though I don't really prefer the early episodes, they are delightful to watch because of him.

I prefer the way Poirot is portrayed in the later seasons, he's much more expressive, even yells sometimes. There's a lot more subtle nuance of interest in some of the female characters, just very slight though... perfectly done.

Heck, I only recently found out that Poirot dies, lol. I had no idea. The last episode was in 2013 and it was a really good one. The choices he made were very interesting. They kept showing him in flashback scenes after he bit the big one cuz they knew the audience would just be fucking done if he didn't get any more screen time on the episode. Sucks it had to end.

I got back into the Poirot kick because I was looking for movies with John Malkovich, and he played Poirot in a 2018 episode. He was actually great in the role. A lot of people didn't like it because apparently it deviated too much from the original story. I have no idea if that's true, but Agatha Christie stories have been put to screen so many times, you gotta change it up a little bit, otherwise WTF is the point??

It's understandable that people wouldn't like Malkovich's Poirot as much as David Suchet, I mean it'd be kinda like some new actor playing Columbo in a remake... which I'm sure will happen at some point. But if it's good, it's good. Kind of a shame that Poirot ever died though, or at least that they filmed the final episode with Suchet in the role. Apparently there are 50+ stories with Poirot, they definitely could have made more.
