On the flip side, this piques my curiosity about the psychological/traumatic origins of the female tendency to become romantically interested in murderers. Some women write letters to men imprisoned due to violent crime, and sometimes they even marry these prisoners.
I would guess this distasteful proclivity stems from having a weak father figure in their childhood, most likely one who didn't defend them when they were in need of protection at some point. The greater his failure, the more voracious her appetite for a violent man would be. A violent man behind bars (probably for life) who therefore could not hurt her.
But this capability for sustained romantic interest which has no eventual physical manifestation is a purely female phenomenon.
