I don't think life would have popped up at all if it wasn't for the right types of space spores landing on the planet. That in conjunction with our position around the sun caused all the lifeforms we see today.
I bet there are plenty of planets out there which are just a little too close or too far away from their sun to support life. And probably a lot of them are in the right spot but haven't had the correct combination of space spores land on them.
