Dexter: Review & Commentary
#58
I've seen a lot of people say that MCH should narrate the Dexter books, but I think it's unnecessary. Jeff's voice sounds too similar to his and it would be kind of redundant. Now if Jeff sounded NOTHING like MCH, then yeah, I'd say he should narrate them. But their voices are similar enough that it's kind of like beer goggles, you squint a little bit and hell, you're practically listening to MCH. It also helps if you're half asleep.

Which BTW... I've been listening to these Dexter audiobooks in bed and I typically fall asleep within the first ~15 minutes, if that. Works like a charm, but I usually don't even remember turning it off. I should probably start listening to something else at bedtime.

I'm picky about narrators though. And I don't want to buy any short audiobooks, if it's under 6 hours then I really don't see the point. I just got "The Complete Works of H.P. Lovecraft" today, narrated by Sam Kusi. Oh my God, there was never a more perfect bedtime narrator voice, let me tell you what.

Listen to the sample, this guy's voice is like velvet, sooo relaxing and there aren't any big volume peaks either, at least not in the sample. I don't like it when they raise their voices for emphasis or to show variation between characters. Lovecraft's writing style is such a perfect match for Sam Kusi's narration style and I can't wait to fall asleep to this one. It's FIFTY HOURS LONG. Best Audible credit I ever spent.
