The thing about snakes is that their consciousness runs the length of their bodies...
I have never killed a snake before now, but I have seen other people kill them.
There was one in particular who got the head severed, well past where the brain would be... the rest of the body kept moving into specific shapes. It was like it could still see... the area below the severed region would keep moving TOWARD you (even if you moved) in attack mode. With no brain. Explain that one.
They sense with their whole bodies. I don't know how it is when they get run over though. I think there has got to be a percentage of the body that has to be destroyed for the rest of the body to stop reacting.
