I think the only way humans go out into space to colonize shit is if the entire industrial world gets together and build huge ass colony ships capable of taking tens of thousands of people. Of course you need to be able to live on said ships for thousands of years to reach habitable planets. I don´t think we´re going to find out how to bend space and make worm holes any time soon.
Also I think gravity on planets like mars will fuck people up big time. A lot of things in our bodies are finely tuned for Earths gravity, like our sense of balance in the inner ear.
