I've listened to several interviews with Laura over the years...
Some of the things she said, which had nothing to do with the Mars thing, led me to believe that she could be totally nuts.
As for why her family hasn't come out and called her crazy in front of everyone... why would they unless she was an asshole to them? They probably love her, and her crazy isn't hurting anyone so there's no real need to throw her under the bus by coming out and calling her crazy.
Besides, think about it...
If what she's saying isn't true, they probably think she is completely insane, and considering the subject matter, they probably just assume anyone who hears about it is going to think she's nuts too, therefore there's no reason to address it.
And if what she's saying is true, they probably want people to assume she's merely a crazy person, and that takes care of itself... there is no reason for them to affirm or deny.
