Dave seems like he´s a genuinely good natured person, but as you said, not smart (or mentally strong) enough to not resist the urge of joining a religion. Too bad he couldn´t find something more worthwhile to do. He could actually do a lot of good with his money and fame, but thinking about doing God´s will and going to heaven and getting a bunch of virgins was too tempting ;) lol.
I still kinda semi-like him though.
