Anything I've become a supreme expert at has taken a lot of time and practice too...

But in all seriousness, I know it all comes at a price. I am not saying you "lucked up on it" or anything like that.
When you're years removed from all the hardest learning hurdles associated with whatever you have the most expertise in, there should be a time when you can look back and be grateful you did it and consider yourself enriched by the knowledge.
That's more so what I'm talking about when I refer to being lucky. Maybe that's not the appropriate word...

Sounds right and feels right to me though.

I'm sure you've tried that in the past.
I don't know what the secret to making any of this kinda stuff pay off is, but I think the most worthy attempt to make is to try and have independent success, i.e. not work for other people.
