I think props are a bad idea...
It was glorious when Oksana did it, but I still think it can introduce a bunch of complications.
If you can WEAR the props (like masks) then I guess it's fine.
I've been looking at photos of Ilia's costumes and trying to examine his style... he's had some legendary outfits so far.
But like I've said before, he seems to do his best work in the casual outfits, like the sweats.
Are those kind of outfits actually more dangerous than the really tight costumes they usually wear?
Even stuff like the long flowy sleeves Hanyu wears now seem like they could be a recipe for disaster.
I guess I'm just worried about the safety of this sport going forward.
The more props they start bringing in, like this admittedly legendary mask performance by Ilea...
The more the balance could get knocked out of whack.
A mask today, what'll it be tomorrow? A samurai sword?? Hell, let me not give them any ideas.
Yeah I'm sure they practice and develop a lot of muscle memory with their props, but things could still go wrong.
Too much is being demanded from pro skaters, too many dangerous stunts.

And my problem with it is that somebody is gonna get hurt because of those absolutely ridiculous demands.
Hopefully it's not Ilia, but it's gonna be somebody. That's the bottom line. And it's too bad something like that will probably have to happen before there is reform.

Cuz think about it...
If Hanyu couldn't pull off some of the moves they're acting like are just the "logical next step", do you really think anybody else is gonna be able to do it SAFELY??
I seriously doubt it.
During the past 10-15 years, they've just been ramping up their requirements for special moves EXPONENTIALLY.
Where does it stop??
Stops with a serious fucking accident at some major competition, fucking guaranteed.
I cannot be the only person calling this shit out. I can't be.

I can't enjoy Ilia's talent because of this.
It's like a lamb to the slaughter.
His potential is gonna get wasted because his career will inevitably be shortened due to injuries/physical demand.
This shit happens to football players all the time, head injuries out the wazoo, they get TBI and their personalities get all fucked up...
https://www.nih.gov/news-events/nih-rese...phalopathy
These consequences are severe, the shit ain't a joke.
Quote:• The NFL has implemented a robust concussion protocol that mandates neuropsychological baseline tests and retests for players before they can return to play after sustaining head trauma.
• The NCAA requires student-athletes to undergo a pre-participation exam that includes a history of concussions, neurological conditions, or mental health issues, along with symptom inventory, cognitive assessment, and balance testing.
These same practices should be applied to figure skating. It needs to be regulated. The writing is on the wall, they're just gonna keep ramping it up til it requires inhuman levels of capability.
I want to be excited about Ilia, but I'm a lot more worried than excited.
The Olympic gold is too tempting and these skaters will do anything to reach that place.

Pairs skating is even more dangerous than singles.
I am not even gonna embed this video because the thumbnail is just so sad...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfihhAPBEoI
Paul Binnebose (pairs skater) is an example of how dangerous this sport can really be...
It did happen during practice, but I just get the feeling the industry as a whole wanted to sweep this under the rug and hope that everyone forgot about it.
Sure, the skaters are aware of the dangers, but...
So many of them are VERY young and impressionable. It's hard to grasp the severity of what can happen to you if you get injured for life, and when you're young, you don't think about that shit.
The responsibility is on the industry itself.

Then there's Jessica Dube and Bryce Davidson...
His skate cut her face, she had 80 stitches. It did leave a scar, but it wasn't that bad. She was lucky, it could have taken her eye out or got her across the throat.
Then a couple years later, they had another accident...
Thank God they stopped skating together, those accidents were signs for sure.
Apparently he tried to tell her some things needed to change and she just wasn't hearing it, and she basically said he should just leave then.

So this is that Kamila chick who fucked up the 2022 Olympics cuz she was "doping".
Apparently she'd be eligible for the 2030 Olympics when she's like 24. So it's not impossible she could return but it's super unlikely cuz she'll probably be married and become a breeder by then.
But check it out dude, she's got the fucking moves.
0:52 that's a helluva move right there.
See, for me this just begs the question... what was she "doping" with?? Was there some kinda conspiracy, or do we totally believe that this chick was doping??
And what the fuck is doping?? Like was she injecting 'roids or was she injecting the marijuanas? Molly?
Hmmm.

Yo I just looked into it and apparently they tested her way after the fact, and their excuse was that she was taking supplements that could have interfered with testing.
I bet it was totally a conspiracy yo. Some people even think USA paid Russia to sabotage her. I think that sounds kinda dumb, but SOMEBODY had to be responsible for this.
WHAT THE EFF.
They were scared of this chick cuz she's so BADASS!!!!!!!

She'd have crushed them ALLLLLLLL dude.
Oh my God this is huge. Total conspiracy, total coverup.
Pretty sure I assessed this situation before and watched like one of her performances and said there was no conspiracy, but I've totes changed my mind, she GOT DONE DIRTY.

You know what, considering the fact that the female figure skating Olympic gold medalists have been Russian since 2014...
Maybe it was nothing personal against her. Maybe Russia's been doping them for years and finally just got called out on it.

Quote:Russian athletes have long been accused of doping to gain an edge on the competition. This is the story of Kamila Valieva, a figure skater pursuing perfection during her exile from the international stage.
Lol. Well I guess there you have it.
Too bad they had to get caught with her though, she's like the greatest female figure skater in existence right now.

I wouldn't be surprised if she won the next time she was allowed to compete at the Olympics. I wonder if she's consumed with this goal or if she doesn't really care that much.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2030_Winter_Olympics
My math was wrong, she'll be 23.
It's totally feasible for her to CURBSTOMP at the 2030 Olympics.
Fuck being disgraced and going down as "That chick who fucked up the 2022 Olympics."
She should fight for that gold.
But then again if she really was doping, she may not be as good without it.
If she doesn't return to the Olympics then she probably really was doped up.
Then again, as good as she is, you could knock her down a few pegs and she'd still be better than everybody else.

"The World Anti-Doping Agency" lmfaolol.
I mean hey, it's a good thing, I just wish they cared about the general safety of the skaters as much.
