I just now found out about this crazy Mae West movie. Can you believe it!? I have never been a huge Mae West fan per se, just haven't really watched much of her stuff. I am a fan of classic hollywood starlets though.

So I randomly come across this video about how Mae West was in this crazy movie when she was like 85.

The plot is INSANE!

It's a comedy film with a quirky super famous cast. Ringo Starr!?

The opening scene begins at 0:28 in the video.

2:10 and I'm definitely getting "Blazing Saddles" flashbacks with this theme song.

I'm 5 min. into it and it really has an "Airplane!" kinda feel to it so far.

5:56 LMFAOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow. So it's gonna be THAT kinda party!!! Definitely huge similarities between this comedy style and movies like Naked Gun, The Big Bus, Young Frankenstein, etc.

6:44 "there may be a new administration"... see, nothing ever really changes.

6:51 check out that baller nightstand.

7:20 eighty-five... eighty-fucking-five. The enormity of it hits me sometimes. This is such a crazy movie. And the fact that Mae would be down for it at that advanced age?? What a cool chick.

7:33 one thing I will say is this though... I have never seen this movie, nor much of anything with Mae West in it. Certain aspects of the whole vibe just don't jive with me 100% so don't be surprised if I can't finish the movie.

I DO love comedies that are done in this sort of 70s/80s outrageous style. There were many epic films from that era.

8:12 damn she looks fly for 85 and she still has that iconic legendary 'pep' she walks with. That spunk! LOL! This is nuts!

8:22 "they like me any way they can get me" ROFL! Her voice sounds great. I like the one-liner aspect of Mae. I can relate to that.

8:45 wow man... to play in this role, as your last film, no less?? What a brilliant career and a fabulous goodbye.

9:35 oh no, it's a musical. Well, I will probably have to skip some parts.

9:42 Mae does look very charming though.

Skipping the musical parts of this are tricky because they appear to be working important action/progression in with the number, so it's not really some stupid meaningless crap you can skip over like in most musicals.

11:00 Mae's charisma is undeniable, even to someone who's never particularly been a fan... iconic levels of swagger.

15:15 wow... she's so sassy.

15:36 her voice is great.

16:20 I had a huge crush on Ringo Starr.

Hell, I think Mae West was better than ever at 85.

She looked great in this movie.

26:42 "Whateva!" lol, icon. Fucking icon.

This is by far one of my worst review/commentaries ever because I had it saved as a draft intending to watch the rest, but never did... so the upload I was watching is gone and the timestamps are probably all off.

I posted it anyway though because I need a Mae West thread to link to in another thread.

She definitely looked like a man IMO, but if Mae West was a biological woman...

I think her oversexualization was an attempt to make up for being homely.

I guess it worked for her, lol. I can't imagine men really viewed her as a "sex symbol" back in her day though.

But maybe I'm just being harsh. Maybe men really were wild about her. Hell, they'll fuck other men if they're hard up enough.

15:00 I think this is very believable, considering so many other classic hollywood women were infertile for the same reason...

There's no fuckin' way ALL those abortions were so botched that these women became infertile permanently...

They were probably doing this to them on purpose, since having children was bad for the actresses' careers and highly frowned upon.

Really warped shit.

Sextette was truly unwatchable IMO, lol, but this is the only Mae West thread in the database so it had to go here.

I gotta say...

Mae was one hell of a character, so I can see why at least the women would have liked her a lot.

Still can't see the men really liking her.

She was certainly larger than life... I think in some ways, it'd be worth it to stay in character like that for your entire existence. Seems like a lot of work, high maintenance. But maybe it's a wise move. I am on the fence about it.
