S4 E1 - "Matt for Murder"
Season 4, woot!!!
0:02 so there's a new opening theme, but it looks like it's the same footage as always. Definitely not my favorite of all the openers, but I don't think it's gonna last.
0:50 the subtitles are different on this DVD. They are in white with no black background. I wonder if they'll be typed properly or if the subpar subtitle trend will continue. To be fair, the subtitles improved dramatically in season 3.
1:17 God he's so big and thick. So sexy.
1:48 his limp is a bit pronounced here though... I think he's in pain. He had arthritis even at this young age due to his injuries and whatnot, it acted up a lot during filming. This is the first time I've noticed any hint of it.
4:11 something is different in this season. They may be using different equipment. It's not bad, it's just different.
5:46 so hot.
9:05 Kitty looks good as fuck though... they've got her in a baller new black dress.
14:14 this Wild Bill Hickock actor feller is pretty sexy... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_J._Wilke He looks nothing like the real Wild Bill though... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wild_Bill_Hickok

0:20 TBH I like the announcer's voice... the music's what I don't really dig about the opening theme now. And as much as I do like the announcer's voice, it's not really the right fit for the opener.
0:54 whenever you see a new fineass saloon girl, you know there's gonna be all kinds of trouble.
1:03 "I'LL SUCK YO DICK."
1:35 you can tell this is about to be downright tragic.
1:50 what is she on ecstasy or something?
2:08 damn, that's the most smexy action we've ever seen on this show yet!
2:18 lmao. Her reaction was ALL OFF too.
4:17 James Arness looks gorgeous in this shot. There's something brighter and clearer about the picture now, but it seems like it must be a camera or some other equipment difference.
5:45 His brother is definitely the one who killed him.
6:12 "Marshal, I was hopin' on those nights when you're feelin' lonely and Miss Kitty's havin' her menses, maybe you could do the wild thing with me instead?"
6:46 bitch, EXCUSE ME?? DAVE didn't want SHIT, it was YOUR idea. This little trollop is part of the whole thing, there's no way she isn't.
7:00 the subtitles appear to have taken a huge step up in this season's DVDs from what I can tell so far.
7:26 she didn't see SHIT!!! She didn't even LOOK!!! She's lying!!!
13:45 I believe him.
17:34 wow this guy is annoying as hell.
19:58 yeah so would I. And I'd like the guy more than Dave's brother even if he was the one who shot him in the back.
21:27 I still believe him.
21:32 whatever, fuck you Kitty. If I was Matt, there have been a few times when I wouldn't fuck her if SHE paid ME.
23:20 see that's what I said too.
24:11 TBH, he still could have been wrong though. Lmao. But I don't think he was.

Quote:"Interviews are rare and personal appearances… are out," the UPI wrote of Arness, as seen in The Bridgeport Post on May 8, 1966. "It is virtually impossible to determine where Matt Dillon leaves off and James Arness begins, if indeed there is any difference at all. Both are reflective men abhorrent of small talk."
"We've kept the show from becoming gaudy," Arness said. "Towns like Dodge City were drab and dirty. We've maintained that flavor." He promised to readers to not "pretty up" the setting for color cameras.

0:28 "I've seen men do a lot of things for money. I've even seen a few of 'em work for it. However in my job, the ones I run into most often are those who seek a dollar by killing... running a crooked game of one kind or another, or by stealing from their friends and partners. But the worst I ever met was a couple who were willing to earn their bread by making it possible for whole families to be killed, burned out, destroyed. And believe me, it was a pleasure to hunt down men like them. Matt Dillon, US Marshal." https://imgur.com/a/THSs6Zl
12:15 get a load of those bitchin' chaps... https://imgur.com/a/QX2V0Zx *drool*
14:07 that's the sexiest drink of water I've ever seen anybody take.
14:55 if there was one man I could pull right out of the screen and do the sex with, it'd be Marshal Dillon.
15:20 beautiful scenery in this episode.
24:14 I love it when he backhands people.

0:50 lmao.
4:35 I like him, he's hot.
Around 9:45 it happened again... I'm watching along, there's a scene transition, and it ends up back at the beginning of the episode. No idea.
10:07 oh whatever, it's a beautiful town.
10:27 here comes Chester with arms full of dresses!
11:17 roflmfao.
14:50 aw man... that's red. The swift hand 'o justice is comin' to those fuckers.
15:50 his partner obviously did it.
17:11 this guy is pretty effin' clueless though. Too clueless to be hanging around Dodge.
17:27 Kitty's pretty sexy when she's all mad.
18:02 "Good thing you're not a man, Kitty." ... "Well I suppose if I were, I'd be just as bad as the rest of ya."
20:02 that guy's packin' some mad ass.
23:09 lol, two men lyin' dead in the Long Branch saloon.
24:37 TBH, I don't think I could ever get tired of these four... https://imgur.com/a/phvT1TV

I read that Amanda Blake actually had a hand in designing some of the dresses for Kitty, and even hosted a fashion show featuring them. Source:

What a badass!
Good christ, check out that four-panel display of her wares. Sumptuous af.
Actually, I found a much higher res version of it and uploaded it:

This is one of the best pictures I've ever seen of him. I always thought he was a strange looking dude in the same way I think Joe Rogan is. Not exactly hot or even handsome. Definitely rugged, but there's something very earthy about him. Like a boar. Holy shit, I just realized he looks kind of like Norm MacDonald.

Yeah I saw a few of the episodes back in the Pluto TV days early in the thread...
He plays Quint...

Burt Reynolds got his start on Gunsmoke...
The James Arness autobiography has a foreword written by him, and in the book Arness discusses how he and the rest of the cast regulars knew Reynolds was bound for an amazing career when he left the show.

Yep, he's a dude. He saw some Indians coming and left Kitty out on the prairie to fend for herself.

Matt's superior officer from Washington came to Dodge trying to tell Matt how to run the town, and almost got himself tarred and feathered. lol
This almost certainly couldn't have happened. There was no central supervisory organization for U.S. Marshals until well into the 20th century. Marshals were usually selected from the community where they lived, and operated mostly independently, trying to balance the authority of the U.S. government with the expectations of the general public in the territory where they served. Marshals had renewable four-year terms, and didn't want to get on the bad side of their neighbors, who they would still have to live with when their term expired.
The office of Chief Marshal was established in 1961.

I approve of checking the historical accuracy of Gunsmoke plots, even though I acknowledge that Gunsmoke does take place in an alternate universe.

I think Gunsmoke more or less accurately portrays how a Marshal would've performed his duties in the 1880s.

These men are playing with Bicycle playing cards, which were introduced in 1885.
However, their cards have the modern design on back, not the original 1885 design.
