S4 E15 - "Snakebite"

0:50 Matt says he's part Indian, and Kitty had claimed to be part Indian earlier in the series. Wonder if both of those were a joke? I actually am part Lakota Sioux and I think some of the unique/innate abilities that are attributed to Native Americans really can be exhibited even in people who aren't full-blooded. I can think of one example off the top of my head... sometimes after (unintentionally) silently walking up on people and scaring the shit out of them, I've had them say things like "That must be the Indian in you."

0:52 Chester and Matt just chillin'... https://i.imgur.com/E1iGxZb.png

1:16 lol this is the second dog somebody's shot out of sheer annoyance... good ol' wild west for ya! Those were the days!

4:25 this Poney guy is another character that just seems totally natural... it's like we're peering through time into a scene of a person who is actually real.

8:30 lmao Miss kitty is a firecracker indeed. Looks like these guys are gonna get what's coming to them and it's about that simple.

9:00 "I sure am gettin' a belly full of you." Dooo whaaat???

3:03 he's wearing those bitchin' chaps again.

10:22 I wouldn't exactly consider horses "critters"... that's a term for much smaller animals.

10:40 "Butt first." Oooo... well, maybe if you warm me up a little!?

I think I'm seeing duplicate episode names too. Once I get all of the episodes, I'm going to write a little script to scan the filenames and list the titles used more than once.

I'm laying here in a dinner induced near coma with the remnants of a nagging headache just trying to soothe myself with my daily dose of the wild west, but I gotta do the damn dishes...

I don't think Marshal Dillon's gonna be able to keep me up into the wee hours tonight, I'm gonna need my rest. He's tireless, I tell ya.

Let me know if you find any oddities... honestly I think they screwed up on the box set release and got those episodes mixed up/duplicated. I tried to Google it and see if it's ever been mentioned, but nothin'.

I've been napping quite a bit lately, mostly due to getting up several times every night to tend my irregularity. (See the other thread.)

Consequently, I've fallen asleep in the middle of an episode a couple of times and had to watch them again.

You may have noticed that I've slacked off on the commentary, and don't comment on every episode like I'd been doing. Sometimes I like to just lie down in bed and be entertained without having the keyboard at hand.

I'm pretty sure the Urban Dictionary contributor watched this episode, as he quoted Chester's definition verbatim.

This army colonel is threatening to impose martial law if Matt doesn't solve a cavalry supply wagon holdup and the murder of two soldiers.

I don't think that could actually happen. Not legally, anyway. The primary duty of a U.S. Marshal is to uphold the supremacy of civilian rule. The military is only allowed to step in if civilian law enforcement gets overwhelmed, e.g., in the case of a massive riot. A crime committed by a couple of men isn't exactly an insurrection against the U.S. government.

I also think martial law can only be imposed by the POTUS, not just any military officer.

In past episodes, Matt alluded to the Department of War having authority over U.S. Marshals. I don't think that has ever been the case. When the Marshal Service was created in 1789, Marshals reported directly to the Secretary of State. It was later transferred to the Department of Justice.
