This is yet another thing on a growing list of shit that I half-jokingly file under: Mandela Effect.
There is just no possible way that I wouldn't know all about this guy, given everyone he touched. The fact that Kurt Cobain wore a t-shirt with Daniel's art on it in a huge body of interviews and other media -- and that when I look at those photos or footage of Kurt in the t-shirt NOW, I don't recognize it at ALL, even though I do remember the interviews and photos... etc.
I did a Interstellar search on "Daniel Johnston" and found a couple of covers of his songs posted by a guy that used to post his homemade music videos here. I think I have a vague memory of seeing that and thinking that Daniel Johnston was some obscure, old blues singer.
"Daniel Johnston" totally sounds like that kind of "Crossroads" name, which is probably what partially inspired the title of the documentary.
Anyway, this looks fairly compelling. It's giving me Charles Crumb vibes. Does anyone remember that Robert Crumb documentary by Terry Zwigoff from back in the day, called CRUMB? It was Robert's mentally ill brothers that stole the show, and in particular Charles.
