I found this article...
https://www.sleep.org/sleep-questions/do...mals-sleep
I need to give it some thought because I know why we dream, but not why everything sleeps.
Maybe we sleep just so that we CAN dream, but I'm not convinced yet.

It bothers me the way we just consciously disappear.
I mean, you're literally fucking passed the fuck out for like EIGHT FUCKING HOURS...
Have you ever really thought about that???
I'm getting more and more into lucid dreaming. I'd like to be conscious while unconscious. I want to know who and where I am when I'm sound asleep. There's something we're missing, here. I'm absolutely certain of it. I mean I KNOW it.
There's a mystery to uncover, and I'm not just talking about what we're wearing or not wearing under the sheets.

Previous discussion on lucid dreaming... https://www.sectual.com/thread-1829.html
But yeah, it's sooo weird to me how we're literally just laying there for hours and hours.
It was actually this position that made me ponder the REAL reason that we sleep and prompted me to make this thread.
It seems like a really vulnerable and dangerous non-activity on a survival level. Seems counterintuitive to everything we're programmed for.

Sleep has a restorative effect on the whole body, not just the mind.
Dreaming helps the mind sort itself.
Sleep is required for dreaming, but dreaming isn't the only reason we sleep. Perhaps the overall sleep cycle contains as yet undiscovered processes for physical restoration as well as dreaming.

This may be the most important conclusion that can be drawn.
Our bodies heal and repair while we are asleep.
That must be the main purpose behind it.
I think dreaming is also a process of information/experience integration...
As well as being a "training grounds" so we can learn lessons and be spared from having those experience in the physical, where there are serious consequences.
Maybe dreaming is also a means of entertainment during all the down-time.

Have you ever started to wake up, and just for a moment you don't know who you are? You're just pure consciousness, without a body? Totally untethered from ego, basically. And then it starts to feel uncomfortable, so you "will" yourself back into your body, and your STREAM of consciousness returns.
So, what are you, then, without that stream of memories and ideas that comprise your ego? Like, who are you when you can't remember who you are?
I was thinking about this. What if one time you found yourself in that state of pre-waking, where you're conscious but without ego, as stated above, and you start to get uncomfortable, so you do as you always do, and you "will" yourself back ... but nothing happens, and you just... stay like that... forever?
What if THAT is the afterlife? Just pure consciousness, exactly as it is when you can't remember who you are. No body. No physical. No time. Just consciousness. Forever.
If you knew that was the afterlife, what would you do differently while here in the flesh, as an ego? What would you choose to take into your consciousness? How would you deal with dreaming?
I would probably try to build up my imagination; totally work on becoming conscious AS a subconscious being; work on lucid dreaming and astral projection. But mostly I would go to great lengths to keep my thoughts totally pure, so that when I become nothing but pure consciousness, I will have hopefully mitigated any kind of negativity that would come along for the ride. I can see where meditating would help. And religion. As a reminder. Stay on top of it, man. I would stay on top of that shit. Keep it absolutely righteous and pure. My inner life, that is. I'm trying to do that now. It's not easy.

Two dangers to know and always remember is pain and breath. If you hold your breath and forget to breathe you will be dead. If you forget how to breathe you will be dead. If you ignore any pain you feel in the future you might become a cripple.
