So there was a lil mousey in the house and I'd caught a glimpse of him, he was absolutely adorable... the mice out here in the country are usually really small. I guess they're called "field mice"... anyways. Cute as he was, the little feller was absolutely disgusting and had to go.
But I didn't wanna kill him or use some kind of barbaric sticky glue pad or the dreaded metal hinge death trap on him. He's a furry, after all.
So I got the limousine of humane mouse traps...

That's the best one I found because you can let them out really easily at the food basket end with the twisty knob. So fun!!! It's important to get the large one because their tails can get caught if it's any smaller.
OT but I am considering getting a few of these for outdoor use in case TSHTF and we have to start eating wild animals!!!

Anyway back to the mouse...
I got my elbow length rubber gloves on, got the trap into an empty garbage can, put it in my car and drove down the road past a creek, and I set the mouse free there. The idea is that if the mice are getting into your house from some type of mouse sized access, they'll be able to get right back in after you release them. So it's best to drive them a few miles away and even past a bridge if you can because the body of water will ensure they can't cross and make it back to your house.
I saw some party pooper on one of the reviews say that this 'humane' trap really wasn't that humane after all because the mouse is probably gonna die when you put it out of its element in a field somewhere. And I'm just like... at least it has a CHANCE to survive, whereas with a standard kill trap etc., it's DEFINITELY gonna die. So I think people who say shit like that have zero imagination or sense of wonder left in their effing souls. Fuck them!
Cleanup of the trap was fairly easy, but the trick is to hold it under a pretty strong flow of water as hot as you can get it and take a good 5-10 minutes or so just letting it flush out from all angles. If you let the trap sit after you release the mouse and all the shit dries inside or the condensation from the mouse's breath evaporates, the shit is gonna basically be glued onto the inside. You DO NOT want that because it'd be extremely hard to clean at that point.
Most important thing is those super long rubber gloves. While the humane traps are cool, they are fucking nasty and you gotta be careful.
It took less than 24 hours to catch him once the traps were deployed. Make sure you get a pack of at least 2 because you'll want to deploy both of them. If you have a lightweight critter like this fella was, he may be able to get to the food in the trap and get back out without ever triggering the mechanism. He did this on one of the traps, but the other one got him.
Reusable humane mouse traps? Um hell yeah, thank you. Anybody ever eaten a small critter like a mouse or even a rabbit? I think these traps are a great investment for the end of the world, just in case!!!
