I was soooo WTF when I found this out.
I had noooo idea... it was crazy, and I also couldn't believe I had never actually seen a music video/live performance of any of their songs on YouTube before.
I know I've posted some of the songs, I know I've looked them up and listened to them...
How did I NEVER KNOW that KC is THIS guy??
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Wayne_Casey
Casey = KC?? WTF? I had no idea this dude even fucking existed.

And I also found out that Elvin Bishop's most popular song "Fooled Around and Fell In Love" ISN'T EVEN FUCKING SANG BY ELVIN BISHOP!?!?!?! HE'S THE GUITARIST!?!?!?11
The singer is this guy named Mickey Thomas... WUUUUT!??!?!?!

2:44 I love that Elvin Bishop is wearing a sheriff star lmfao.
When I first saw this, still assuming Elvin was the singer, I was like damn they sure are giving that guitarist guy a lot of screen time eh!?
WWWUUUUUTTTTTT!?

But I knew the guitarist must have been super important and cool because he was wearing the star... then imagine my shock, PLOT FUCKING TWIST, it's Mickey singing.
It wasn't AS shocking as the KC thing but it was up there.

The rabbit hole started with Leo Sayer though...
Heard his songs for years and years, never knew who the fuck he was. Had never laid eyes on the guy. And when I did, I couldn't fucking believe it. I was like whoa, THIS IS *THE* GUY.
I'm not wild about this song, it's a bunch of sappy shit, but that's not the point...
JUST LOOK AT HIM.
Look at his delivery, it's fucking insane.
2:40 during the solo he just stares up with this reverence for the CONCEPT of the song, and the message...
You gotta be WILDLY full of shit to be able to do that. This guy is a TRUE FUCKING PERFORMER.
He's the real motherfucking deal. THAT GUY?? HE'S *THE GUY*... he's THE guy.
He's a TRUE PERFORMER, YO. HE'S THE REAL DEAL, YO.
But what's really crazy about it...
This is his ACTUAL way of talking, his actual public persona...
He's TOTALLY ACTING, totally performing, TOTALLY BEING A TRUE HONEST TO GOD PERFORMER.
He didn't need to do a bunch of crazy dances all over the stage like some Michael Jackson stuff, all he did was deliver the vocals, APPEAR like he was into it and really meant the shit, and his job was done.
He's a VOCALIST. He's a vocal performer.
And he's had so many different sounds too, he's like a vocal actor.
I dunno, that Leo Sayer rabbit hole lead to some shocking revelations about some shit I never knew.
This is my fave, Easy to Love...
OH THAT'S MY SHIT RIGHT THERE SON, FAAAAHHHHHHHHHKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

"Leo" is the perfect fucking name for a guy like that... because Leo is the sign of the performer, that's WHAT Leo does. They're the showmen. So I figured the chances were slim that he's actually a Leo on the zodiac, and sure enough... he's a Gemini. Lol, which I would not have guessed. I suppose it makes sense though... he's got that mastery over the style of his voice for any given song, he has great stage presence but he's capable of some goofy kinda shit too. That is pretty Gemini. I was still surprised though.

Vocals sound like Jack White... almost a perfect match in singing style apart from a few segments.
Leo Sayer seemed to be able to do character vocals, sounding different among many of his songs... amazing performer.
Cuz ALL of that shit was just WILD yo, but then this whole thing about Leo Sayer sounding like Jack White on this song pushed it over the edge for me and I knew I had to say something.

It's like Jack White ripped off his entire singing style from ONE Leo Sayer song.
And I'm not suggesting that's what really happened, I think it's a coincidence...
But I do wanna hear Jack White cover that fucking song at some point, I can't believe he hasn't already.

Now look... not ALL Leo Sayer's songs are good, lmao. But he had a lot more good songs than the other people mentioned in this thread. Except for maybe KC, cuz there are probably at least 5 total hits by them that everyone knows.
Leo Sayer is more likeable/lovable though.

It's a funky song, can definitely get stuck in your head.
But I have some issues with the lyrics.

First of all I just wanna say that I do think it's a sweet song on the surface. The music is good.
"Like a dog hangin' on your lead," I don't like that. Maybe if I was a dog person I'd like it more, but I'm a cat person and I just feel like it's sorta dehumanizing.
Then the whole bit about dancing their life away it's like look, I love dancing just as much as the next fucker, but I don't wanna dance my life away. That doesn't sound appealing.

I just don't like someone referring to themselves as a dog in the context of interpersonal relationships.
Leo Sayer co-wrote this song with some guy named Vinny, so I'm guessing Vinny is the one who really came up with this stuff.
Most of his popular songs appear to be co-written. It's cool though, like I said, he's a performer... he didn't have to write any of it at all.

I mean there are worse things than "dancing" your life away, but it just kinda rubs me the wrong way, I dunno.
I can listen to songs on repeat for like hours at a time, across the span of days, no BS...
This one though, I can't cuz of the disagreement I have with the lyrics.

I got some wires crossed in my brains and thought The Bee Gees sang Boogie Shoes it was like one of their least favorite popular songs...
Lmfao.
I was getting it mixed up with Boogie Child, which fits the description above.
I like Boogie Shoes better, but I like Easy to Love by LEEEEOOOO FUCKINNNNN' SAAAAAYYYYYEERRRR.
Just sayin'.

It's live from 2011 and his voice sounds twenty entire years old.
This might one of the best live versions of any one of my favorite songs ever, lmao.
And in some ways I think it's EVEN BETTER.
Wooooowwwwuh. What a performer.
