Documentary: Without Bound - Perspectives on Mobile Living
#81
Those are all really good points. It's so true, I am definitely looking at my future van from an attachment perspective. Hmm...that is something to ponder.

I wonder if the longer you are living the mobile lifestyle, the less important those things become when you spend more time outdoors and connected to nature. It's probably a process of letting go, especially when you come from living in a house and have a lot of stuff to get rid of to downsize. I feel like I NEED that comfort to be happy, but do I really?

The whole purpose is to have your living space outside anyways. And like you said, a bed to sleep in that works!

In a lot of ways I'm opposed to modern society... I feel like certain things, such as air travel, are just unnatural and really shouldn't be done. I absolutely do continue to feel that way about air travel. But I think traveling by ground based vehicles is less harmful, albeit still unnatural. There's such a free, open, invigorating essence surrounding it... there's so much wonder and excitement involved. I just think we're meant to explore this way, at this time in history, or we wouldn't have the tool of transportation so widely available. We're supposed to have this experience.

Yeah im quite similar I hate air travel its like why can I not go by boat? And the reason is because all the old people get cabins on cargo ships for adventure. You have to book like 2 years in advance to travel by sea these days unless its a cruise which is stupid. I only went on a cruise once it was fucking stupid just drunk people and sex orgies like you can have that where you live don't need to pay 5k to get it.
Imagine back in the days you could just ride a horse and go wherever you want? Have to stop to camp take supplies resupply. That is how I would like to live but its not practical in this age.
I wonder if you could do this though just transverse different continents via horse back and take your time you will actually feel and experience every aspect.
And im not talking about a weekend trail ride im talking living on horseback. It would be so insane.

But its hard to find those vids I might have to look at old saved bookmarks. Seems youtube algo just fucks all that shit off to promote its current bullshit. But people just thought they were bums. Now everyone wants to do it cos its better than being a slave.

So true. Something is shifting in society right now that is causing people to take a second look at mobile lifestyles as a viable alternative to the rat race. Whereas in the past it was something you thought homeless people did. I've personally known homeless people who were living out of their vans 10 years ago out of necessity and it was never something that sounded appealing. It was a hard life. So what has changed?

It's almost like the more our freedoms get chipped away by the NWO and the power hungry corporations, the more we are all craving real freedom in our lives and a chance to escape. Or, maybe it's technology that's actually allowing us to condense the essence of our lives into smaller shells.

The whole problem is there is to many people. Its mainly India and China who are causing it. And im not Racist I don't hate Indians and Chinese in India and China they have some great ancient mythology and stuff that interests me. But they have populated out of control. Like if you look at the US, per capita has the highest standard of living and wealth in the World. Yet most families in the US, has 2-3 kids, not 9 like in India and China. And why would people in western wealthy countries not commonly have 9 kids? Because they don't want to overpopulate and fuck their countries. Yet eventually in India and China when they can no longer fit there where do you think they go? To our countries. There needs to be a solution because its destroying this beautiful planet.

I just want to be able to ride a horse everywhere too, it feels natural.

Here out West, there are no horse ranches anymore, they are all being razed to the ground to put up more ugly tract homes!

My neighborhood used to be a ranch area and we'd find horseshoes buried in the dirt when we were kids and I dreamed about being able to ride a horse to school like they did in the old days. It wasn't even that long ago that you could do that, like 50 years ago! That is how fast society changed!

In another 50 years, our houses will be mobile flying machines that can dock into different stations anywhere in the world. Nobody will drive, they'll just fly in their mobile house to their destination. They already have flying cars, so it's not a stretch to have a flying rv or camper van (as much as I don't like to fly either).

I wish I could live in the old wild west I would fit in perfectly there. Hard times but appreciation for them. People had community people helped each other.

I would not be able to stealth pee by wearing a long skirt without undies and squatting to pet the dog. I would be afraid I'd pee all over the skirt.

I think the best thing to do in that situation is just hike up the skirt and squat behind a car or bush.

Hobo Ahle

I've been watching some of her videos, some people call her fake too. I'm not sure, some of her advice is kind of basic, or just seems like stuff everyone already knows.

Yeah most people would...

It's not a legitimate way to relieve oneself because it's entirely dependent on what type of ground you're on. If it's grass you may be able to get away with it, but if it's anything else, there would be a puddle. Very nasty. That chick was just trying to be risque. I admire that kind of thing for its quirkiness, but it's not at all realistic or effective.

Oh sorry double post...

She seems like she has been through some hard financial times, and got into this lifestyle out of necessity.

I think Ahle is legitimate, at least compared to most of the sponsored YouTubers in the genre now. She was actually one of the original "plants" that YouTube put in place for this whole "van life" trend. She stays with family a lot, takes them traveling with her, and travels on her own.

I don't really watch her much though because the way she talks comes off as a tad fake and try-hard to me, and I can see her real personality cutting through it, LMAO. She's fine and all, no problem with her. I did watch her videos more before she actually got the hi-top van.

They do have good advice
Having worked on motorhomes and travel trailers, and this is just my opinion the more options you get the more likely you are to have random problems. there is literally miles of wiring in one motorhome. Very time consuming to work on. That's what I like about the van, buy a stripped cargo E 350 gas V 10 used and you have a blank canvas to do whatever you want with the inside and outside for that matter.I guess though it all boils down to how much room you need

Holy shit, epic insights, Jbrd!!!

Thanks.

I'd never even considered that before.
