Yup.
Be so glad you don't know me in real life... Be so glad.

Lololol...
Well it's like having an inside joke, but with yourself, so there are even more people who don't get it than normal.

Being excluded from an inside joke but being surrounded by people who do the inside joke thingy... not fun.
Let alone being one person and having a personal inside joke and the rest of the world is just confounded.

It's HILARIOUS.
I swear there's no such thing as actual insanity... It's just people who have gotten lost in all of their own inside jokes.

This is prettymuch the shade...

I say "prettymuch" because it's never quite perfect...
It gets close to that quintessential 90s shade, but never quite hits the mark dead on.

The Kick Inside is my favorite album of hers too, but I have to confess I like the new version of "Wuthering Heights" on The Whole Story a lot better than the original. It might seem a little over-produced, but to me the original seems under-produced, and Kate's voice hadn't matured enough to convey the haunting quality of the song at that point.

I prefer the original version, it has that intimate 70s feeling... This version isn't different enough to offend me though.

The outro is filled out better. In the original, the piano rolls along for awhile at the end with no further vocals. It just never seemed to be on par with all of the other songs on the album for some reason. And the reverb in the new vocal really enhances the ghostly, distant vibe I think she originally intended.

Yeah the additions to the outro were interesting, added a different vibe to it...
I didn't dislike it or anything. I'm sorta partial to the way the original ends, she doesn't say anything else and the guitar just carries the song out. I like that because I can relate to the emotional silence she was conveying like I timestamped in the post at the top of page 3. She's always been a total genius... I think maturity maybe added a little grit to the situation, and it's fun that she expressed that on a new version of the song but, I will keep the original.

Fair enough. I had the sense that because she was a new unknown artist at the time, maybe they didn't put their best engineer on it. Fortunately her talent was enough to carry the show.
By the way, Pat Benetar's cover was a travesty. I love just about everything Pat ever did, but her "Wuthering Heights" made me cringe.

Nothing short of a crime against humanity... I would never even push play on it... Or anyone else's attempt to cover any Kate Bush song. It's sad they ever tried to and I feel it must have been a joke at their expense... Like their manager said "Listen, we need you to be publicly humiliated, so this is what you're gonna do..." |
