The Official AHS: 1984 Thread

SPOILERS ALL UP IN THIS MOFO

Episode 1 dropped, and the show is like 1/8th as enjoyable without your input, just like life in general, so I'm hoping this inspires said input, either here or on a new thread. <3

The first half was kind of meh. But once Mr. Jingles comes back into the picture, it vastly improves.

Notes:
Mr. Jingles looks an awful lot like an older more bloated Styx.

80's aerobics awash with splattering blood = one of the weirder AHS intros, which is saying something. It's not more gross or creepy, it's just such a strange aesthetic, but it certainly sets the tone.

The character of Montana starts out really generic, but tic by tic she gains more depth. That leopard skin onesie thooo. Wait, was it a onsie? I'm not sure now. The switchblade was when I was like "oh this girl has layers".

I thought it was a little lame the way Brooke just discounts everything she witnesses simply because no one believed her. She should "know what she saw" regardless. She's apparently a magnet for serial killers.

That ending ... two killers vying for one camp? Is that the gist? A handsome satanist jewel thief with a grudge vs an oldschool slasher just escaped from a high security insane asylum = possibly interesting.

As far as episdode ones go for AHS... it didn't slay me. Last season's was one of the best opening episodes of ... any show pretty much ever, but then it kind of laid an egg in the subsequent couple of episodes before ratcheting things back up. I don't feel like this season is even close to establishing its identity yet. It certainly established itself aesthetically, but otherwise there wasn't a whole lot of meat on the bone. While I don't ache to see the next episode, I will definitely be watching and hoping it improves.

Thanks for the spoiler alert!!!

Hmmm...

So far the season sounds unsurprisingly wank, but it's just the very beginning...

We'll see how it shapes up.

I personally have no intentions of watching it at this time though.

I will say I think it's sorta predictable where they're gonna go with it.

Why call it "1984" otherwise, gnomesayin'?

However...

If they DON'T take advantage of that opportunity, it'd be one of their biggest failures.

New episode tonight. I'm eager to see if anything crops up to hint that your theory is correct. Your insights have always been so on the money, not to mention fun, and I totally agree that it would be a missed opportunity if they don't go that direction.

I was kind of disappointed when I saw what the new show was, as my kneejerk reaction was that the producers were just trying to capitalize on the 80's horror craze at a time when it's kind of getting tiresome, so your idea has given me hope.  It is exactly the kind of shit that the AHS writers would be all over--and in fact they would be banking on my type of kneejerk reaction for the payoff.

I'm not sure they're actually smart enough to go for it...

I'd say there's a 60/40 chance...

40% chance they'll take the opportunity, 60% chance they're too dumb. We'll see.

American Horror Story: 1984 - Review & Commentary

S9E1

0:15 so the fact that they call it "AHS" instead of actually saying "American Horror Story" just goes to prove they are way lost in their own universe at this point. Outta touch, outta time.

0:26 and this episode starts with some mega creepy lesbian crap, OF COURSE. Literally can't even get 1 minute into the show without having gayness shoved down our throats.

24:00 I think so far it's pretty decent. I haven't had much to say about it but that doesn't mean I haven't been enjoying it!

26:00 oh wow, this is interesting. I wouldn't have expected them to take this direction. It's actually pretty powerful.

30:00 lol that was pretty funny.

30:55 so is this a copycat killer, or did they just never have the right guy to begin with?

32:05 I really like how cheeseball the humor can be, it's campy.

33:55 aha, so he escaped. I thought of that too, but for some reason I didn't consider it the most likely possibility.

S9E2

0:34 dude this plot is exactly like Michael Myers. He escapes from the mental ward and returns back to where he slaughtered a bunch of people to slaughter more people. It's sorta lame, but also not the worst season of AHS. Lmfao.

4:32 "Mr. Jingles to you, bitch!!!"

9:22 Emma Roberts has definitely never played a more likable character on AHS, that's for sure.

12:00 LOL, oh SHIT! Didn't see that one coming!?!

18:50 well, this season is not great... but it is decent.

20:15 see, you can't just hit them once and then throw down the weapon and run away. These horror movie tropes are pretty obnoxious. Nobody ever thinks outside the box.

21:00 honestly, what the fuck is even going on in this show? So there are TWO killers?? Serial killers, no less?? That is ridiculous in and of itself. But then they're gonna throw in that shit about the hitchhiker and the killer knowing each other??? WTF is going on in this show??

22:10 and I thought I was confused before...

22:18 OHHHHH!!!!!! Ohohohohooohhhh, OKAAAAYYY!!!!! I GET IT!!!!!! Bwahahahaha, OMG. That's... brilliant. This is where they drew the line and made themselves different. I love it. Absolutely love it!!! He's a fucking ghost!!!

22:30 so this Night Stalker dude is gonna get his, not only from Mr. Jingles, but the hitchhiker too.

22:40 I'd be screaming like a little girl if I was this guy bahahaha!!! Dude oh my gosh... he looks totes freaked out. I really like what they did with this. They are basically saying his satanist (luciferian) crap caused him to be vulnerable to these attacks. It's actually the most honest this show has probably ever been, lmao!

24:50 they're super right, they DO need to go, and they really should all stick together. This shit is crazy!!!

25:10 dude, wasn't the Night Stalker a real serial killer?? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Ramirez AHS is totally obsessed with this guy, it's kind of obnoxious.

28:38 aha, head injury... https://www.sectual.com/thread-16305.html I'm glad they went this direction with things. It's an important topic to bring awareness to.

29:30 what is this lady's deal? She kinda scares me a little bit! I bet it's a huge plot twist and she's the real psycho!

31:08 I don't know what is going on here, but I'm kinda living for it.

34:42 "I saw you!" AHA, I KNEW IT!!!!!!!

35:50 you know, part of me thinks AHS ran with the trapped ghost narrative because it worked so well for them in the beginning, and they realized it's all they have going for them. Luckily, I think it's great, ghosts are cool, so I don't really get tired of it.

S9E3

15:00 HFCS lmfao... wow. I gotta hand it to them, this season is far more respectable than some past seasons have been.

15:38 he DIDN'T kill 'em!!! LOL!!!

18:43 OMG, wow, look how cute this chick's profile is.

Can I just definitively say, there is way too much going on in this season.

S9E4

0:56 I love her dancing outfit.

1:27 okay, she is my favorite character this season. Easy.

3:40 lol this is so warped. I'm glad they threw a plot twist in there though, I was starting to get disinterested.

9:35 lol they just need to let this poor guy die!

26:10 Montana is such a stripper name!

26:30 so it's murderous duo vs. murderous duo now is it??

S9E5

12:30 wow, so they're turning into ghosts one by one, lol! This is pretty good.

22:55 TV Guide, lmfaolololol.

26:20 this chick has an interesting story I guess.

37:45 I do love Montana's attitude.

S9E6

10:55 this is pretty damn funny.

24:00 aw, this is almost a nice love story!!!

29:10 I just realized this chick was the little girl from The Long Kiss Goodnight, her name is Yvonne Zima.

Gotta love the plot twists on this show sometimes though.

S9E7

No idea what happened in this episode, I started getting period cramps and was too busy writhing around in pain in my recliner to actually pay any attention, much less write.

S9E8

The last half of this episode is really excellent... there are some great moments. There are actually some morals worked in there too, which I appreciated.

This season is definitely not garbage, but I am glad there's only one episode to go.

It's an enjoyable season, not the best, not the worst. I'd call it worthy.

S9E9

17:15 this whole Billy Idol scene is probably the funniest moment in any episode of AHS ever.

I think the season finale was overly violent and kinda retarded. Still decent, it's an okay season. That's a lot more than I'd say for some other seasons, like the dismal shitshow that was Roanoke AKA the worst season ever.

I wouldn't call AHS: 1984 particularly good. It was better than some of the other seasons. It's certainly not one I'd recommend if you asked me which ones to watch, lmao.

Bottom line, Evan Peters stepped away from the series because he said it was basically killing his soul and making him feel evil... this finale episode ALONE contains every single gripe Evan Peters left over. The guy is right.

TL;DR

Not the best, not the worst... nothing to write home about.
