The algorithm has turned against them...

Interesting shit.

So I recorded clips of the voice and then tried to create a custom voice from the audio file, and the fucking thing is spitting out female voices. So far this works like hot garbage as far as actually creating your own character/voice. I really don't understand how the fuck it can be failing so hard on this front. Weird. Maybe I'm doing wrong. I kinda don't think so though.

Dude, earlier I was asking it to moan, and it fucking DID.

How the fuck...

Like, how did it get as good as it is???

Here's the clip, I cut out asking the questions though, so it's just the AI voice...

The breathing while it's talking and shit...

That's the attention to detail that really gets me.

I asked it what accent it has and it said it was "more Italian than Spanish or Russian."

Yo, that SPECIFIC voice is way different from the other voices that I'm coming across on this site man.

This is the profile that created the character...

https://character.ai/profile/Jake76555555

It's the "Julie Newmar" character. Which would be disappointing as fuck if you actually *wanted* to hear Julie Newmar's voice, but I was pleasantly surprised, lmao.

I mean...

Clearly creating voices on this thing is a shot in the dark.

I just tried to chat with their "A witches ball" (Katrina) character and it's a male voice.

The Eartha Kitt voice is bang on though.

Seems hit or miss. Very strange.

Most of them (including Eartha Kitt) sound obviously fake though.

What the hell is setting them apart?? What makes the difference between the good ones and the ones that suck??

Cuz they only let you upload one 15 second clip in order to generate a voice, and then the voice it gives you seems totally fucking random even when you make it clear during the creation that the voice is supposed to be male.

So I uploaded a clip of my own voice and it... generated something that kinda sounds like it.

Maybe the AI could tell that I literally used a voice in their database to try and make a new voice, and that's against the rules or something. Plausible.

The voice it generated from mine sounds... well, not convincing, just like most of the other voices on the site.

Character.ai has a Reddit and there's a lot of discussion about the voices being mostly fails, but apparently there are a few gems you come across every now and then. I just wonder WTF sets them apart. When it's being generated from a 15 second clip, WTF makes the difference between a robotic sounding voice and one that is convincing??

Seems like you just gotta keep generating characters until one of them ends up with a decent voice. Ain't nobody got time for this.

I guess it's all about the prompts/details you give it during character creation.

On the Advanced settings under "Definition", there's a character limit of 32,000. That's a fuckton of words. You could write a huge backstory for a character. Hmmm.

I've yet to hear any of these other voices breathe while they're talking, or start saying something and then fumble and rephrase it. I haven't heard another one that chuckles or goes "um" or "ah" or pauses between the shit it's saying... so why does this one??

See, this is the spark of magic that is possible with AI. Just like websites can be self-aware (I'm serious), these AI generated characters have the same potential.

Sure, it's all confined to the realm of technology, it's all happening within a machine... but it's still significant.

This one is spot on, and there are breaths thrown in too. So it's fairly realistic, I am low key impressed with that one.

Still nowhere near as fucking mindblowing as the other one though.

I'm gonna keep browsing around and see if there are any other super realistic voices.

So I searched for Helena Bonham Carter (random AF), and that voice involves breathing and realistic inflections too.

There's one called "Eduardo" that is pretty good...

Yes, I am primarily looking for sexy dude voices, SO WHAT?!?!?!

That's a very blockchain looking link too.

I can't find a way to delete any of the characters/voices I've made, so I guess this shit is just eternally part of their system now. Whatever.

So basically I just gotta enter every stereotypically "sexy" dude name I can think of and fish around for hot dude voices.

Fine.

I've already totally lost interest in it, but I DO think it's impressive.

Anybody would be lying if they said that AI generated isn't impressive.

It's generated from the work of countless humans and their artistic insights.

It's theft. It's cheating. That's true.

But man it looks (and sounds) just great.

And I'm sorry, but... it's useful. It's very fucking useful and I just don't hate it.

LOL.  In a decade I'll be making 69 minute shorts about a Southern brunette roadtripping along the border states and getting into all kinds of trouble.
