I wish this would last forever.

Quote:High latitude sunspots tend to appear early in the 11-year solar cycle. As solar cycles unfold, sunspots start high, then converge toward the equator. The existence of AR3800 is an anecdotal sign that we're still in the early stages of Solar Cycle 25. If so, strong solar activity is just getting started and may last for another 2 to 3 years.

That would be amazing.

Quote:A filament of magnetism erupted on the sun yesterday, hurling a coil of cool dark plasma toward Earth. A NOAA model suggests it will arrive during the late hours of Sept. 10th. The impact could spark a G2-class geomagnetic storm with naked-eye auroras in northern-tier US states.

Just saw the aurora borealis here in Kentucky... red and green. First time I've ever seen any green before. The moon was mega bright and half full. What a moment. Historical for me.

Quote:A fusillade of solar activity on Dec. 29-30 hurled two CMEs toward Earth. Their arrival on Dec. 31-Jan 1 could spark moderate (G2) to strong (G3) geomagnetic storms. If a strong storm materializes, Northern Lights could descend to mid-latitudes in the USA and Europe, competing with fireworks displays to start the New Year.

I checked the satellite map and it looks like half the planet is covered with clouds.

No wonder there's been a cold spell here in the tropics.
