Well, not at their disposal at least.

They probably don't have legal recourse.

Will have to introduce some type of regulation for subs used in these retarded undertakings in the future...

That'll be the only justice ever seen in this situation.

Totally nuts that these people paid to ride in that thing.

What the hell has gotta be wrong in your life to pay $250k to be put in a situation like that??

Doesn't seem like buying happiness to me.

Apparently they've still been hearing some kind of sounds from the sonar... but how often do they listen for sounds in that part of the ocean on purpose? Prolly basically never. I'm just saying.
Reply
It really doesn't matter if they can still hear survivors or not... they can't get to them. Probably couldn't rescue them even if they were just stuck in a net "closer" to the surface. Which, odds are, is still way too far for even a military sub to venture to.

The only bright spot would be if the buoys are picking up the banging noise from the surface. If they're on the surface banging on the craft then they could be saved if found in time. If they're underwater, there's no chance of saving them.

Apparently the sonar buoys can pick up the tiniest sounds from a great distance.

Wonder what important story this whole sub debacle is distracting us from... seems like the BalloonGate situation all over again. Media obfuscation.

I crack up each time I read 'banging noises.'

Yeah, I've heard a lot of interviewed 'experts' talking about listening for the survivors banging on the craft for help, but I just thought it seemed ridiculous.

If you were in a sub that is made of material known for "shattering like a porcelain plate", I'd think the last thing you'd wanna do is bang on it real hard with an object...

Especially if it's underwater and therefore amidst immense pressure.

If it's on the surface though, that's a whole other matter.

I think the worst thing at this point would be if they WERE floating on the surface somewhere and just weren't found in time.

I mean, every possibility besides implosion is an extremely undesirable situation, but them being on the surface and not found in time would be the ultimate kick in the nuts.

They'll be talking about this story with intensity for at least one more week.

If the sub is found and the people are actually rescued, it'll extend this story's place in the news cycle for several more weeks.

The question either way is what are they trying to drown out of the news cycle with this story.

If they ever do find out what happened to these people and the truth is disturbing enough, I guarantee they'll make a movie about it so they can further capitalize on the Titanic carnage looshfest.

Apparently Lookner is sensitive to being yelled at. Let me jot that down for later.

I don't think they'd be taking the ship with the rover down to the actual Titanic wreckage site on the ocean floor if they didn't have reason to believe they were down there.

Maybe they just wanna be able to say they did literally everything they could (even against all odds, capable sub vehicles wise) before they announce that they believe the vessel imploded, or they simply can't find anything.

Apparently the tethered rover they're taking has the ability to tow, which is a huge deal. I would have figured they wouldn't be taking a trip down to the actual wreckage site for quite sometime.

But they're doing it.

I think it's 50/50 they think they're actually stuck down there, or they want to be able to tell the public they did everything possible before they announce they're out of oxygen without a doubt and are definitely dead.

If they are able to find the sub down there, they won't be able to bring it back to the top in time to save any survivors, if they can even get hooked up to the sub in the first place.

That said, if they do find the sub (because they already suspect it's there) and actually do bring it to the surface...

It'll be a historical event, only 2 similar rescues have ever taken place.

Would also be monumentally bad for whoever has to open the vessel and discover whatever awful things probably happened in there. Meh... still betting on implosion and they've probably been dead since Sunday.

Steve is getting sooo snotty with his audience, I think it's pretty funny.

He's the one who chooses to cover this.

He has 9k people watching.

So...

I think it's clear why he does this.

Maybe I misunderstood him and they're not actually sending a rover... I'm not really paying attention TBH, I just have this open in the background.
Reply
Ah yeah...

So they're sending a French ROV "Victor 6000" capable of reaching the Titanic wreck depth and it apparently could help free the sub if it's trapped.

It has robotic arms and the ability to hook the sub to a cable attached to a ship... it can't tow. So the whole towing thing was my misunderstanding.

To me, that suggests they have reason to believe the sub is stuck at the bottom.

They will discover whether or not the sub is at the bottom with this thing, no doubt.

If they do find it and their attempts to bring it up with the French ROV are unsuccessful, it's pretty obvious that they will bring in whatever equipment is necessary to recover it to the surface if indeed it is down there.

The whole story got too big for them to have any other option at this point.
