i used to pronounce anise as [a-niece.] i did this once at work in reference to delicious pizzelles to one of my former staff, a middle aged jewish woman. she said it's pronounced [a-niss.] i said [name] you can't say that at work! with a totally straight face. she cracked up as she was used to my tomfoolery.
