this is interesting video from 1989 in some gambia hospital  , @5:00 some  poor dude with malaria  then @10 min. check out the kitchen area  LOL 

HOLYCOW   don't ever get sick travelling  in west africa   , malaria is really common too and  most of the time you can't prevent it  only get shots for it after you have caught it and feel like you gonna die

Is there a cure for malaria, or do you have to keep treating the symptoms for the rest of your life?

they can only give you a 'cure' for whatever the strain of malaria happens to be getting passed around by mosquitoes that year , every year the strain changes so you can never be immune to it

people that go over to africa doing aid work have had malaria sometimes like 5 or 6 times , apparently its worse than the flu and can be deadly depending on how strong the strain is that year

my mother had it when we were over there as missionaries , right now the congo is the worst because they have so many water systems criss crossing the country allowing mosquitoes to flourish
